I am getting Cannot find Server errors when I try to sign into hotmail and netflix among other sites. I've followed the required scans. Here is my hijackthis log

Have you recently updated windows? I don't see anything wrong with your log. Do you have your xp firewall set? Do you have another firewall set also?

I haven't recently updated windows and I have windows firewall turned off. I also have norton, but its firewall is also turned off. I am running on a router with 3 other computers hooked up and the other two can both access these sites. Luckily this means the problem is not debilitating, but it is still frustrating. What are your security settings in IE? You might lower them >>tools>>internet options>>security>>internet .

Have you tried it using firefox?

Is windows on automatic updates?

I tried lowering the security settings to low and it didn't help. I have tried firefox, instead of the can't find server error, I get an alert that says, for example, "the connection was refused when trying to contact www.netflix.com" when trying to log into netflix. I'm not sure about the automatic updates, I don't believe I have it set, but I don't know how to check for sure. Thanks! Mike

What other sites besides netflix, hotmail? Are they sites that require passwords?

It is definetly sites that require a password, but not all sites that require a password. In fact only a few. My email account at cp.rowan.edu and my online banking at pncbank.com would be two other examples. And to make sure I was clear, I can get to these sites. I can go to hotmail.com but when I type in my email address and password and hit login, it goes to a cannot find server page. With netflix, I was on autologin and I could do all my normal things, but then I accidentaly manually signed out. now can still browse the site like any other person who doesn't have an account can, but when I try to sign in after typing my username and password and hitting the login button I get the error.

I can sign on to some sites though. This one for example. In fact all message boards. I can sign into imdb.com and other sites. I don't know if its some additionally security that hotmail, ect use or if its a certain kind of script they are running that I suddenly can no longer run. Thanks! Mike

Close all programs and all windows, leaving only HijackThis running. Please disconnect from the internet. Place a check narj against each of the following, making sure you get each one and not any others by mistake:

Hi,
My firewalls are turned off and I performed the hijack this fix. It is still not working. I also posted in the other section as you suggested and recieved a few replies. One suggestion is that one of my SSL security certificates or files is corrupted, so I'm looking into reinstalling them. Thanks again! Mike
