My co-workers are driving me NUTS with this stuff. I tell them how to prevent this, but they refuse to listen apparantly. Usetobe helped me about a week and a half ago with the last co-worker's comp, now a new one has issues. I used spybot (112 problems) & adaware (56 objects), but there are still issues that aren't being caught or totally fixed. Here is my HJT log:

Hi Jennifer, get a stick ready this time when it's fixed up. Next person that doesn't follow instructions get's to be the first battered up :tazz:

OK, let's get this fixed up ;)

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapp...rch/search.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapp...rch/search.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Bsbvemm] C:\Program Files\Fwmju\Uyme.exe
O16 - DPF: {88D758A3-D33B-45FD-91E3-67749B4057FA} (Sinstaller Class) - http://dm.screensave.../sinstaller.cab

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\Program Files\Fwmju\

Restart and run Panda ActiveScan at http://www.pandasoft...ucts/activescan. Post the log from the Panda scan here.

Restart and run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here. How is it running so far?

Do you have the paid version for Butterfly Oasis Screensaver? If not, the free version has spyware and it should be uninstalled.

Delete these:

C:\WINNT\tct101.dll
C:\Program Files\Butterfly Oasis Screensaver\ - only delete if it's the free one
C:\Program Files\Common Files\dmacfeds\

Download CleanUp! http://cleanup.stevengould.org/ (Alternate Link if main link don't work - http://www.greyknigh...spy/CleanUp.exe ) and install it. Run CleanUp! and click on the Options button. Uncheck 'Scan local drives for temporary files'. Also uncheck those two Newsgroup entries if you don't want to delete them. Click OK and then click on the CleanUp! button. Let it run. After it's done, choose Yes to logoff.

Restart.

Your log is clean.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.

I will have to do this on Monday, since it's a work comp. I'll post another reply then. And I'm almost 100% positive that it's not a paid version of the screen saver. Thanks.

No problem Jennifer :tazz:

Uninstall it if that's the case because it has the GAIN spyware. Report back how things are running.

Well, I uninstalled the screensaver and deleted the other files, as well as clearing out a lot with CleanUp!. I ran Adaware & Spybot again; Adaware found one critical object, and Spybot found 2 problems - one from GAIN and one from Route. The machine seems to be running quite fine now. I think in our next weekly meeting I'm going to print up that Anti-Spyware Tutorial for everyone to acquaint themselves with. Hopefully it'll help. Thank for all your help, you guys are awesome :-)
