Hi BillBates

(1) You Have a CoolWebSearch Infection. Please Download CoolWebShredder, from http://www.geekstogo...=download&id=17
Extract the Program into its own directory we will need it later.

(2) You have a virus 1.exe, April 1.exe

(3) Please run a free online virus scan here (tick the "Auto Clean" checkbox):
http://housecall.antivirus.com/

And a free Trojan scan here:
http://www.moosoft.com/

After you have completed the scans please post a new Hjt log

Thank you

Hi BillBates, I know that thatman pointed you to one infection, but there are others:

You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure.

Please save Hijack This in a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

Reboot your PC.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic, and let us know how your system's working. <_<

Thanks for the help thatman & freek.

Here's what I did...

Downloaded CoolWebShredder and saved it to its own directory.

Ran the HouseCall virus can which found 2 instances of TROJ AGENT.FL. They were identified as noncleanable, so I deleted them.

Ran the moosoft virus csan (TheCleaner) which found Purity Scan. I cleaned/deleted it.

Closed all browsers and open windows.

Ran a HighJackThis scan.

Checked the items indicated by freek and clicked Fix Checked. Note: Not all of the items identified by freek were present, so I checked the ones that were.

Rebooted.

Ran a new HighJackThis scan which is included below.

Thanks again for the help.

What's next? I'm guessing we're going to do something with the CoolWebShredder, but I'll wait for your instructions.

Also, when I boot my system, the Norton Antivirus icon in the tray comes up with a red X through it and I always have to right-click it to enable autoprotect. I've tried to enable it permanently many times without success. Is this related to a virus?

Temporary Internet Files and
Recycle Bin

Click OK and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.

Reboot your PC.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic, and let us know how your system's working. <_<

Thanks Admin.

I did as you said.

Here's the new HJT log.

The Norton Antivirus icon still comes up with the red X.

What's next?

Congratulations! Your system is CLEAN <_<

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use) Click Here.

Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.

These next two steps are optional, but will provide the greatest protection.
1. Use ANY browser besides Internet Explorer, almost every exploit is crafted to take advantage of an IE weakness. We usually recommend FireFox Posted Image.
2. Install Sun's Java. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine .

It's okay to delete the Hijack This folder if everything is working okay.

After doing all these, your system will be thoroughly protected from future threats. :D

Your Norton installation has likely become corrupt. Usually it works to uninstall it through add/remove programs, restart, and then reinstall. If that doesn't work, start a new topic and we'll get it going. :D

Thanks again Admin. Everything seems to be working again. I was able to uninstall/reinstall Norton Antivirus and that did the trick.

Thanks for all of your help!
