Does this just happen for one program? Does this happen for everything? It sounds to me like a program was uninstalled and the shortcut is still on the desktop and it's trying to start a .exe file that is not there.

Hey Skn

You get a error with opening every program?? <_< Are you able to open My Computer or My Documents, if you can go Tools - Folder Options - File Types tab, does anything show up. This is where you can assign file extensions to run with programs, problem is, if you happen to pick the wrong program for the file extension, you can cause a major headache. Lets see if any thing is in the window first and go from there.

Put the XP setup disk in the drive and click "start", "run" and type "sfc /scannow" withouth the quotes this will fix system files. Maybe this will help.

Well there should be a "system restore" disk that came with it. That will work.

No, I mean a cd-rom that came with the system when it was new, it has xp on it and your bundled software. If you log on as "administrator" or with and account that has administrative priveledges you can access system restore then, but not with a limited account.

You can start in safe mode by pressing F8 right after the POST test (the very first screen you see when you power on the pc). Keep pressing it until you get a list of options and choose "safe mode"
