I have a Sony PCG-K33. According to all the paperwork it uses PC2100 DDR 266, but it came with PC2700 DDR 333 straigt out of the factory.

Out of the box RAM configuration 2*256MB PC2700 DDR333.
Current RAM configuration 1*512MB PC2100 DDR266 + 1*256MB PC2700 DDR333

I am trying to upgrade to 1GB RAM. I bought a 512MB PC2100 RAM. I took the old 256MB PC2700 and replaced it with the new 512MB PC2100. When I turned the Laptop on it took longer then usual, then when windows started i checked the amount of ram under MY COMPUTER>Properties and it said 192MB. I also checked with Burn It, and it was the same result 192 MB of RAM.

After that I tried the old 256MB PC2700 with the new 512MB PC2100 and started the computer one more time. Now It reads 224 MB.

If i go back to old 512MB PC2100 and 256MB PC2700 I get 768MB.

Any idea what can be causing this?
Thanks

Hi there

Have you tried the new 512MB stick on its own? If so, is it recognised correctly?

Also, so far you have given us the figures for the total amount of ram reported by Windows (ie 192MB & 224MB). In these cases, does the bios also report those incorrect sizes?
