Boy do i need help I had to reformat my hardrive and that went ok bu t i notice that there was something wrong with the cd rom so I had to copy the windows setup files so I could install windows. I put the files on the hd and installed windows from there. Well that went fine now i had to unplug my cd rom in order to use the computer I can't install anything using the cd rom or the computer will restart over and over again. Im running windows 2000 and the dvd-cd rom is a ddu1621 does anyone know whats going on? I need all the help I can get thanks in advance

Did you change any cables or jumpers? If not, sounds like some type of hardware failure in your drive. Not worth fixing since you can purchase this drive online for about $35.

Do you use it to watch DVD's? If not, maybe consider a CD or CD-RW drive.

Replacing the drive is something most people can accompish quite easily. <_<

I didn't change any jumpers or cables but it does look like I'll have to buy a new one. Any suggestions how I can install microsoft office with out my cd rom working? Can I install that in dos mode like I did my os? ANy and all help is great thank you

You probably won't be able to install Office until the drive is fixed. You could copy the entire CD to the hard drive, but that would require a working CD-ROM drive, an external drive CD drive, or a network connection.
