Hi Chris,

You have one infection on your PC.

Click on Start ---> Run. Type Services.msc and hit enter. Locate the item - Mouse Click Monitor. Right click on it and then click on properties. In the Startup Type choose the option Disable. Close the window.

Delete the file - C:\WINDOWS\System32\mousecm.exe

Run Hijack This. Click on Config ---> Misc Tools ---> Delete an NT Service. Type in mousecm and hit enter.

Reboot the PC immediately.

Please visit Panda and do an online scan. Save the scan report.

Run Hijack This and post a fresh HJT log along with Panda scan report.

Run Hijack This and click on scan. The following items need to be fixed -

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ Microsoft Windows Security Center] mswin32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [ Microsoft Windows Security Center] mswin32.exe

Close all windows other than Hijack This. Check the boxes next to above items and click on Fix checked.

Reboot the PC in Safe Mode.

Open Windows Explorer (right click on Start and then click on explore). Locate and delete the following file -

C:\WINDOWS\system32\mswin32.exe

Now run the CleanUp program:

*IMPORTANT NOTE*
CleanUp deletes EVERYTHING out of your temp/temporary folders, it does not make backups.
If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp

Running CleanUp
  • Start CleanUp by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
  • When CleanUp starts go to the Options button (right side of CleanUp screen)
  • Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
  • Now place a checkmark next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
    • Delete Cookies
This is optional, if you leave the box checked it will remove all of your cookies, at this point removing cookies is a good idea
    • Empty Recycle Bins
    • Delete Prefetch files
    • Cleanup! All Users
  • Click OK
  • Then click on the CleanUp button. This will take a short while, let it do its thing.
  • When asked to reboot system select No
  • Close CleanUp
Finally, restart your computer back into Normal Mode and please post a new HJT log

Okay, before I continue the process, I'd just like to point out that this file:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\mswin32.exe

...doesn't exist on my computer.
So, shall I just continue on?

Chances are that Panda has already deleted the file.

We still need to fix the entries in HJT. Please go ahead

Everything seems to run smoothly, except when WinXP first loads up. At startup, it essentially just lags a lot.

EDIT: Oh, and that "Failed to connect to driver 2" error still pops up, even with the printer plugged in. Again, I haven't noticed any tangible effects of this.

EDIT 2: All the original program freezes I outlined before are still there; notable examples include the System Properties window freezing when I go to check the Device Manager, and MSN Messenger freezing whenever any link is triggered in a conversation window.

EDIT 3: Yeesh... This is worse than I thought. HijackThis freezes immediately after it completes a scan. Though I haven't yet tested this with ewido, I'm lead to assume the same thing will happen, going by what happened before.

Please RIGHT-CLICK HERE to download Silent Runner's.
  • Save it to the desktop.
  • Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
  • You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done, let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
  • Once you receive the prompt All Done!, open the text file on the desktop, copy that entire log, and paste it here.
*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.
