Hello,
at our company we have inherited some "vintage" equipment. These machines get their programs downloaded thru the com port. Right now, we have an old pc with windows 3.1 and ms-dos 6.2 as the o/s. A batch program is used to download the appropriate info to the equipment. Everything works fine on this setup.

My goal is to eliminate this pc, and run the batch files on one of our standard pc's (windows 2000) so that I can run other "modern" applications as well.

I copied the batch program to the newer pc and attempted to run it form a dos shell, but it did not work.

I strongly suspect the batch commands used in the original program are no longer valid...

I did confirm the port settings, and they were correct for the application.

Any ideas on how I can upgrade or run this vintage program on a newer system?

since batch files work by issueing dos commands...and since dos hasn't really changed much.....it should work without issue.....i would almost say try to run through the batch file commands one by one to see what errors come up..

dsenette,

You were right. I went in to the files and slapped in a bunch of pause statements....several things were incorrect, port settings, file locations etc..
Working fine now. Thanks for your advice!
