somehow when my laptop went into standby mode the screen got all tiny. When i try to adjust the resolution, it just increases or decreases the amount of black space. I used to be able to fix the problem before i had to reload my operating system. Now the option I used to use is no longer there. I have a dell inspiron 8000 and I am running windows XP professional edition.

Open Display Properties/Settings/Advanced/Displays... click on your LCD panel and place a check in the "Scale image to panel size" box.
