Hello, my name is Darcie, and I have been having major trouble with the usb for about a month now. I am trying to get my digital camera and my scanner to work. They were both working fine until I did a Windows 98 reinstall after a system crash.

The message I am seeing in my device manager when I click on properties for the Usb Root Hub is this:

The NTKERN.VXD device loader(s) for this device could not load the device driver (Code 2).

I have tried to update the driver but it says I already have the best one.

Welcome to Geek sto Go Darcie. Try uninstalling the USB root hub using the device manager. Then restart Windows. The Hardware Wizard will reinstall it, and hopefully it will work.

Thanks for replying, I have tried that, didn't do the trick. I'm pulling my hair out! I've also gotten this message, sorry I didn't post it before.

NDISHLP.SYS error loading device driver

I can't remember at what stage I got that, I've been trying to many things. But I did remember to write it down!

What brand is your computer? When you bought it did it have windows 98 on it? Did it come with an installation cd? Is that the cd you used to reinstall windows recently or are you using a diffenent one? Find the cd that came with your computer and browse the disk. Look for a "drivers" folder somewhere and then look for "usb" there might just be drivers in there, so when you try to install the hardware you can direct the wizard to that folder on the disk. Or it will have it's own install program and you can doubleclick on "setup.exe" or "install.exe" (something along those lines). Maybe that will work....

Thanks Johnny, it did come with 98 installed, and i reinstalled from the same disk. I will try looking on it as you suggested and will post the results.

I am having the same problem. I have done just about everything under the sun to get the USB Root hub to work B ut I get the same message that you have. Has anyone come up with a fix for this yet?

This may or not help. I just had a weird driver issue with a printer. The driver was in the folder where it belonged, yet on boot up, an error message said that it could not find the driver. I wrote down the path to where this driver was and rebooted. I then typed in the path to this driver when requested and all has been fine since. I know it doesn't make sense, since the driver was in the correct folder all along, but it worked.
