Let me start by saying I've read through a couple other Winfixer topics, and mine appears to be unique, in that I do not have Nail.exe, or Aurora. I know this because I had Nail.exe once before, and a couple of my anti-spyware programs picked up Aurora when I did. I have also tried using fixnail.exe, and it didn't seem to fix anything.

My problem is that I recently visited a website which seems to have installed some nasty adware/spyware on my system. At random times, whether I'm using an internet browser or not, I'll get pop-ups for Winfixer (this is the prominant pop-up), and sometimes for casinos or random other things.

I have tried running Norton Antivirus, Ad-Aware SE, Spybot, Spyferret, Spyware Doctor, and Spyware Nuker, all in safe mode, and they all found things, but when I go back to normal mode, I still have the same problems.

Originally, I kept getting random programs installed (BargainBuddy, Cashback, etc.), but that seems to have stopped for the time being, and I'm now just getting pop-ups.

I am running Windows XP Home on a Dell PC, in case we need that information.

Oh, whoops. I read stuff about this forum, and I didn't know that a HiJackThis log was required at the beginning of a topic. I assumed someone would ask if that was needed. Sorry about that. =P

Anyway, here's my log. So you know, I'm aware that I have Weatherbug, and that it is considered adware by most people. I am fine with Weatherbug, however, so please skip that when telling me what to delete.

(Edited to remove old log to save space.)

Isn't that the whole thing? Or do you mean the little paragraph at the very top, as well? Righto, here's the entirety. Sorry about that.

Just what I was looking for thank you :tazz:

You may have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:
  • One
    Two
  • Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe.
  • Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.
  • Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!
Note; if you recieve any error messages for CMD or Autoexec.bat>> select option 5 from the l2mfix and once at the site, click on the link that apply to your operating system!
Double-click the file it downloads and extract the files to its predetermined System32 folder!

Then post a HijackThis log (not attach) together with the log of the L2Mfix

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.
  • From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter
  • Press any key to reboot your computer.
  • After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log.
  • Copy the contents of log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log, and we'll clean up what's left. :tazz:
IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

DO you have a web site of this program? WhatPulse
Can you tell me what it does? Thanks.

If you use Windows XP, Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also.

Submit file:

Navigate to this file in windows explorer C:\WINDOWS\ttext.dll

right click on it and choose compress and email

Please email that file to: submit@atribune.org

In the subject, put the name of the file
(thanks!)

Before I forget, yes, WhatPulse is a valid program. The website is http://whatpulse.org if you want to read more.

It's basically a little program that logs how many keystrokes you make, and ranks you among the other members of the site. I completely trust it, so don't worry about that from now on. (It is also never installed as spyware or anything, so if you see it in the future, then the user installed it themselves and know what it is.)

Now I'm off to follow the rest of your instructions. I'll reply as soon as I finish.
