In my signature is a program called Everest. Please download, install, and run it. Navigate through the program and find the information pertaining to the hardware/drivers you're having problems with. Then post the info here.

What model Deskpro do you have? Alternately, you can go to the compaq/hp site HERE and locate your audio driver. If you enter your model number into the Search box, you should be able to find all the drivers your computer uses.

Does you sound adapter show up in Device manager? Any yellow or red marks showing up in Device manager?

Can you run Everest, highlight Computer, go to Report/Quick report and select HTML. Save the report to your desktop, and when you reply here, attach the report to your reply.

cherilee32... you didn't answer my questions about Device manager.

Does you sound adapter show up in Device manager? Any yellow or red marks showing up in Device manager?

I also asked you to save the Everest report to your desktop in HTML format and "attach" it to the reply... not "post" it here.

Can you also download hijackthis, here, and have it generate a Startup log. Save the log to your desktop and "attach" it to your reply. We need to see if the AC97 app is being loaded.

To attach files to your reply, just click on the Browse button at the bottom on the screen, browse to your desktop, and select the file you want to attach. Then click on the "Add This Attachment" button.

Ok, there is no Soundman in your startup... which actually makes sense since you can't install the driver.

I need you to locate the model number of your computer. I know it's a Deskpro, but what model number is it. You may need to download a driver, and unless you know what model number computer you have, there is no way I can point you to a link for the driver.

Also, you still haven't answered the question about Device manager. Does the sound card show up there... it will be under Sound Video and Game controllers. Are there any red question marks or yellow exclamation marks showing up in Device manager anywhere??

Ok, there is not enough information in the data you supplied. You will probably have to look at your Computer documentation to find out the correct model number that can be recognized by the HP website. This is the linkI have found for models enl/733, but it does not specifically list "ENL/P733/10e6/128c".

What I believe is causing your problem is that your chipset driver needs to be updated so your sound card can be detected. Download the correct chipset driver and install it. Also download the latest sound driver and install that too. That's the best I can do without actually seeing your computer documentation because the HP website will not give any direct hits for the model number you posted.

Thanks alot for all your help. I really do appreciate it. I did download the chipset update but the adio driver i still cannot find and it also says that there are no active mixer devices installed. I'm starting to think that I need to take it to a professional so they can look at it an download what i need. But thank you very much

Hi Folks. For those who are having problems with the Compaq Deskpro EN AC97 Sound Card. I went to http://h18007.www1.h...ate/4_1149.html and downloaded the AC97 audio driver and the WDM update. Install the driver, restart, then install the WDM update, and restart. Use the Windows Media Player it supplies with the program in your system tray and everything is good. I had the same problem with the sound playing too fast. I highly recommend that site, and go back to select your Compaq model if it is different. I wouldnt have found the site if it wasn't for this forum. Amen.

Sirus.
