i cant make a log from avast or winpatrol, cant figure it out.

Download smitRem.exe and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop.


If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup
Don't run it yet!

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.


Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.


Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut, then do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked!

Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis Log, the contents of the smitfiles.txt log and the Panda Log by using Add Reply.

Avast! wouldnt let me scan panda a window poped up saying(maleware win32ctx virus/worm) I wonder why it wont let me use the scan...

i ran adaware and housecall but couldnt get a log a copy of the scan report but there was 0 infections.

Is my system clean?

Run Hijack This and click on scan. The following items need to be fixed -

O18 - Protocol: msnim - {828030A1-22C1-4009-854F-8E305202313F} - "C:\PROGRA~1\MSNMES~1\msgrapp.dll" (file missing)



O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [msnmsgr] "C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsgr.exe" /background

These are optional items. They need not run at startup. This would help speed up your PC.

Close all windows other than Hijack This. Check the boxes next to above items and click on Fix checked.


How is your PC behaving now ??? Able to do your school work ????

the welcome screen pauses for about 1 min before it canges to the desktop...... and then it takes about 1 min to load homepage(msn) . do you have any tips to get my welcome screen and my homepage to load faster?

Please do the following -


1) Uninstall Ewido. It is a good product but it is a trial version. Also having multiple AV products on a PC is bad as the conflict between them can severely hamper the performance of the PC.


2) Open MSN Messenger. Click on Tools ---> Options ---> General. Uncheck the following items -

a. Automatically run Messenger when I log on to Windows
b. Allow automatic sign in when connected to the Internet



3) Visit Windows security and critical updates and get all updates installed.

Reboot the PC and post a fresh HJT log

SP2 is a critical patch, which shouldd be installed on your PC. It plugs a lot of loopholes exploited by viruses and worms.

Do not uninstall it once you install it.
