Hi All!
Please let me know if I can load Linux on this bad boy.
Also instructions on how to do it.
I have never used unix/linux and I want to start learning.
Any help would be appreciated.

As Scooped said, Yeah, you can but I would be reluctant because of the ATI graphics...I'm not saying it won't work, but it won't work well or anywhere near as well as a machine with Nvidia graphics.
just my $.02 :tazz:

Well for someone new, I'd probally go with SuSe or Fedora Core. They're both very automated.

I don't think you will really need to worry about graphics, because unless your going to be gaming on a laptop with linux (Which would be wierd :tazz: ), you don't need great graphics.

Ok I started downloading SuSe 9.1. do you know where is the best place to download. I tried the NOVELL ftp, but the speed is like 6Kb/s.
Also I want to have windows xp and suse, is that too complicated?

Your best bet would be finding a SuSe Torrent, and downloading it with bit torrent.

I've never dual booted with SuSe, but slackware was easy as [bleep] to dual boot, so Im sure it's very simple on SuSe too.

Make sure to read up on it though.

A word of caution:

"Very simple" for linux-people means something different than "very simple" in your dictionary.
Be prepared for "very simple" things to take hours of reading and fiddling.

Best of luck. Hope you enjoy it better than I did :tazz:

Load XP first then load SuSE.

Once YaST loads up it will give you your partition options and it is very intelligent, it will recognize your Windows OS and optimize to keep that and dual boot from Grub.

I would suggest however getting SuSE 9.3 instead of the older kernel used in 9.1

Check for mirror sites instead of downloading straight from Novell. DistroWatch.com can lead you in the right direction.

Good luck.

Hi All,
Thanks for your help.
I am glad to inform you that I am posting from my new SuSe 9.3 Laptop. It was a bit tricky to setup but nothing that google cant handle.
It looks good, I am off to explore more.
Thanks Again,
Adrian
