I followed all the steps outlined on your posting "Geeks To GO_Malware Removal - HiJackThis Logs Go Here_You Must Read This Before Posting a Hijackthis log".

I ran Clean Up!, Ad-Aware SE, CWShredder, Spybot S&D, Ewido Security Suite, AVG, Trojan Hunter, and updated my Windows SP1 (I didn't want to do SP2 because I was still having problems).

I am still getting a WINFIXER installation as well as many other popups and registry clean up offers.

I am posting my Ewido Security Suite Scan report as well as my Hijack This Report. Both were run within 30 minutes of each other.

Please help me! I really want to get my computer updated to SP2 so maybe we can minimize some of the popups and security issues. Please see below.

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe.

Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.

Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log.

Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until I ask you to.


If you recieve any error messages for CMD or Autoexec.bat>> Select Option 5 from the l2mfix and once at the Site,Click on the link that apply to your Operating System!

Thank you so much for your help! I followed your instructions and prior to getting my notepad report, I received two duplicate 16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem pop-ups stating the following:

c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
c:\windows\system32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'close' to terminate the aplication.

I did choose close, rather than ignore because I didn't know what ignoring would do. It still gave me my report which I am also attaching but I am wondering if I need to worry about this error.

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.


From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer.

After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log.

Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

After posting those 2 logs,proceed with the Instructions below!

Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:

Download and Install
CleanUp!
Dont use it yet!

Reboot into SAFE MODE(Tap F8 when restarting)

Run Cleanup,when prompted to log off>> Select No

Scan the PC with Ewido just as described in the link-> Clean everthing it finds and make sure to Save the Report

Scan the System with Ad Aware,remove everything it finds and delete all quaratine files!

Run MSCONFIG and enable everything in the startup area. To get to MSCONFIG, click on Start -> Run -> type in MSCONFIG -> click OK!

Under the "General" Tab
Make Sure Normal Startup is Checked!!

Click Apply>>OK>>Follow the Prompts to Restart!!

Restart Normal and have the PC Scanned here:
Panda Active Scan

You will need to be using Internet Explorer for the Scan to work!

Save the Report it generates

Download the Hoster from here:

Press "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK"!
Exit Program!


Post back with a fresh HijackThis log and the reports from Ewido and Panda!

When you ran Option 2 of the l2mfix,did you get any kind of errors?

If you recieved any kind of errors pertaining to cmd or autoexec.bat,please run Option 5 of the l2mfix!

It will open a browser and take you to a site,simply click the link that applies to your Operating System and download the file!

Double Click the file and when the small window pops up,click unzip!

Run the l2mfix again and this time,Select Option 4 and Save the Log!

Now Run Option 2 again and Save that log as well!

Post back with those 2 logs!

I did not receive any errors when running the l2mfix. The only time I received an error, recently, was when I was running the Ewido in safemode. I outlined that error and my actions in my previous post. I am hoping that clicking "no" on that error did not set me back.

That being said, I ran #2 on the l2mfix and below is my log. I did not do the option 5 or 4 as you instructed because I did not receive an error when running option 2. My understanding was that option 5 and 4 only needed to be run in the event of an error. Please let me know if this assumption is incorrect and I can get you the log for option 4. Please place HijackThis in a permanent folder,to do this.

Right Click the Desktop and Select "New">> "Folder">> Name it whatever you like!

Now locate the original Zip folder that HijackThis came in and place it in the New Folder-> Once in the New Folder Right Click and Select "Extract All"


Please make sure that Microsoft AntiSpywares Real Time Monitoring is Disabled!

Don't use it yet!


Click Start-> Run-> Type in Services.msc and Click OK!

Scroll that list and locate these 2 entries

Right Click each and Select Properties-> Click Stop-> Go up and change the Startup Type to Disabled!

Click Apply-> OK and Exit the Services Page!

I was unable to complete your instructions because when I ran services.msc, in the properties of Command Service, I was unable to select Stop as an option. EVerything was greyed out and the service status was defaulted to started. I also looked at System Startup Service. Stop was also greyed out however, system status was already defaulted to stopped. I didn't want to change the Startup type to Disabled until I knew what to do about this so I stopped at that point of your instruction. Please let me know how you would like me to proceed.
