When I boot my computer, the only way to start explorer and get my toolbars and icons is to run it as a task in task manager. How can I fix this? Please help me!

Click start then run, type sfc /scannow then press enter to replace the system files, you need the XP CD and get a blue bar, when the bar goes, reboot.

When I ran the scan, nothing happened at its conclusion, even though explorer isn't working. Is there another possibility for the problem?

Usually, replacing the system files would deal with this

Run this

You need Windows Installation CD to repair the current installation, last in list, which leaves data and programmes alone
