I also have a Dr. Watson Postmortem debugger error. AFter reading several posts it is apparent I need someone to help read this file and offer suggestions as I have done several scans of various spyware removal and antivirus software.

Thanks for the help.

The error comes up on XP sp2 start and then dr watson service must be ended from Task Manager before we can continue. After the service is shut off then the computer appears to work correctly.

Please download and run a Free Trial of Trojan Hunter at http://www.misec.net...rojanHunter.exe. Please restart your computer.

Please run the Housecall online virus scan located at: http://housecall.tre.../start_corp.asp. Follow the prompts to scan your hard drive for viruses. Select the "Autoclean" option so that Housecall will remove any viruses from your system. When the scan is finished, please restart your computer.

Then please run the Panda scan here: http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm. Delete any viruses found, and restart your computer.

Close all browser and other windows except for HijackThis, and click "Fix Checked" button to finish the repair. Close the HijackThis application.

Please reboot your computer into Safe mode (continually tap the F8 key while your system is starting, select Safe Mode from the menu). For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site: http://www.pchell.co.../safemode.shtml

Next, make sure your PC is configured to show hidden files. Here is how to do this:

Windows XP

* Click "Start".
* Open "My Computer".
* Select the "Tools" menu and click "Folder Options".
* Select the "View" Tab.
* Under the "Hidden files and folders" heading select "Show hidden files and folders".
* Make sure "Hide extensions for known file types" is unchecked
* Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" option.
* Click "Yes" to confirm.
* Click "OK".

Delete the following file/files marked in blue (if they exist):

C:\WINDOWS\firewall_anti.exe

Delete the following folder/folders marked in blue (if they exist):

C:\Program Files\Common files\WinTools

Finally, clean out temporary and Temporary Internet files. Go to Start -> Run and type in the box: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files
to remove. Make sure these 3 are checked and then press *ok* to remove:

Temporary Files
Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin

Restart your computer in normal mode.

Go to Start->Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit Ok
Scroll down and find the below service:

WinTools for IE service (or WinToolsSvc)

When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then click on properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok.

Run HiJackThis. Click on "None of the above, just start the program". Now, click on the "Config" button (bottom right), then click on "Misc Tools", then click on "Delete an NT Service" a window will pop up. Enter the below item into that field (copy and paste):

WinToolsSvc

Click ok.

It should pull up information about the service, when it asks if you want to reboot now click YES.

After reboot, post a new HiJackThis log. Let me know if you received any error messages.

In addition, let me know in detail how your computer system is running after performing the above steps.
