Good afternoon! Having big problems with this computer. When I first started trying to remove all the spyware, virus's and all that other hoopla, I was glad to find this site. I have followed everything in your Malware forum, even went into safemode to try this.....In regular mode, I cannot get Ad-aware to run. I get this shut down message, saying Windows/System32/Services.exe has errored out and it shuts down the whole computer. The rest of the steps work. In safe mode, Ad-aware worked. Completely lost on what the heck is going on with this darn computer.
Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Hi paco71, welcome to GeeksToGo

Please download LQFix. Extract the files to a folder. Don't run it yet.

Open HijackThis and click Scan. Put a check next to these:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = about:blank
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {20EC3D2D-33C1-4C9D-BC37-C2D500688DA2} - (no file)

Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Boot into safe mode by tapping the F8 key before Windows starts to load.

Once in safe mode, double click LQFix.bat. A DOS window should open and close, this is normal.

Go to Conrol Panel Add/Remove Programs and uninstall this if found:

Ebates_MoeMoneyMaker

Make sure you can view hidden files and folders:

Next click on My Computer.
Go to Tools > Folder Options.
Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked.
Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extensions for known file types."
Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

Navigate to and delete these folders and files if found:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\nsvsvc
C:\WINDOWS\system32\picsvr
C:\Program Files\5d2o4lo6
C:\Program Files\Ebates_MoeMoneyMaker
c:\windows\system32\nhisanj.exe
EGDACCESS_1060.dll search for this file.Go to Start > Search and under "More advanced search options".
Make sure there is a check by "Search System Folders" and "Search hidden files and folders" and "Search system subfolders"

Go to Start >Run and type cleanmgr

This will bring up the disk cleanup utility. Run it to clean temporary and temporary internet files, downloaded program files, recycle bin.

Boot back to normal mode. Go here and make an online scan. Save the results as a text file.

http://www.pandasoft...com/activescan/

Then post a new HijackThis log along with the Panda results.

Regards,

Armodeluxe,
Sorry about my tardiness. XP crapped out on me Sunday nite, and had to get the XP CD to repair a few files. I went thru the entire process again, along with your steps and here is the newest HJT log and the Active Scan Log. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Hi paco

Are there multiple user accounts on that computer? The new log doesn't have any similarity to the first one you posted. Please post a new log from every account for me to see. That is, you have to run HijackThis seperately while logged in every account.

In the last one you posted,

Run HijackThis and click Scan. Put a check next to these:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {2CDE1A7D-A478-4291-BF31-E1B4C16F92EB} - (no file)

Close all other windows except HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Save the text in the box below to Notepad. In Notepad go to File>Save as. Choose the destination as your desktop, name it Fixit.reg and in the drop down box at the bottom Save as "All Files". Double click on Fixit.reg and let it merge with the registry.

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\INTERNET SETTINGS\ZONEMAP\DOMAINS\ARCHIVIOSEX.NET]

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\INTERNET SETTINGS\ZONEMAP\DOMAINS\SGRUNT.BIZ]

Please first save these directions to the desktop as a text file, because you will need to copy and paste part of them later, once we are in Safe Mode.

1) Please download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

2) Then please reboot into Safe Mode by restarting your computer and pressing F8 as your computer is booting up. Then select the Safe Mode option.

3) Once in Safe Mode, please run Killbox.

4) Select "Delete on Reboot".

5) Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\mseggrpid.dll
C:\WINDOWS\DOWNLOADED PROGRAM FILES\ATPartners.inf
C:\WINDOWS\DOWNLOADED PROGRAM FILES\netslv32.inf
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\PACO\APPLICATION DATA\tvmknwrd.dll
C:\WINDOWS\smdat32m.sys
C:\WINDOWS\usta33.ini
C:\WINDOWS\protector_update.exe
C:\WINDOWS\whCC-GIANT.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\FLEOK
C:\WINDOWS\system32\SplWbr.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\s404Search.dll.tcf
C:\WINDOWS\system32\WinNB57.dll.tcf
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\ATPartners.inf
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\EGCOMSERVICE_pack.inf
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\netslv32.inf
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\m67m.inf

6) Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

7) Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt. If the computer doesn't reboot by itself, reboot manually.

Then please post a new log from each account.

Armodeluxe,
Yes there are a total of 3 accounts on this computer. I dont know the passwords to the other two, and the people who use these accounts dont remember the passwords either. I have tried to use the lookup feature to find them, no luck. Any ideal how to get those passwords?
I did what you asked for this account, and here is the log file:
Thanks,
Paco

Hi paco,

That is a nice, clean Silentrunners log..

Now, the accounts..

Paco log looks clean..

Log on to Candy and run HijackThis, click Scan. Put a check next to these:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) =
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =

Close all other windows except HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Now switch users to Uzzi

Run HijackThis, click Scan. Put a check next to this:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

Close all other windows except HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Apart from those leftovers the logs look clean..how is the computer running now, any problems left?

Armodeluxe,
Evening. I ran another active scan, and it found two items.

Incident Status Location

Adware:adware/tvmedia No disinfected C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\UZZIEL\APPLICATION DATA\tvmcwrd.dll
Adware:adware/navipromo No disinfected Windows Registry
Possible Virus. No disinfected C:\Program Files\TrojanHunter 4.2\Tools\Process Viewer\ProcessViewer.exe

I was able to remove the first one, but could not find the second one in the Registry. I know the third one is listed, but is just a precaution.
To help clean up things I have also went ahead and used the RegSeeker took to clean things up alittle. Other than that, everything seems to be working 100% better!
You all do some amazing work.
Thanks again,
Paco

Hi Paco

You don't have to worry about registry leftovers, without a file they are just orphaned entries..

Good to hear computer's running good :tazz:

Please take the following into consideration to maintain a clean computer.

You need a firewall. Don't rely on the Windows firewall as it monitors only incoming traffic,, you can pick one of these, they are all free.
Kerio
Zonealarm
Sygate

Visit Windows Update regularly to get the latest security updates. You can also enable automatic updates.Your antivirus software and antispyware programs should also be updated regularly. Make a habit of running scans on a timely basis. Be careful about what you download, scan every file before clicking on it.

Additional programs to consider:

Spywareblaster Prevents the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted software.Blocks spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.Restricts the actions of potentially unwanted sites in Internet Explorer.
Spywareguard An anti-virus program scans files before you open them and prevents execution if a virus is detected - SpywareGuard does the same thing, but for spyware!
IE/Spyad
Adds a list of malicious sites to your Restricted Sites Zone.
Firefox An alternate browser safer than IE

A good article to read:
So how did I get infected in the first place?

Regards,

Armodeluxe
