Spybot S&D detected MagicContol and lets me "delete" it, however upon running Spybot again, it was again detected. I have done everything on your "before you post" page and nothing was detected. I have the latest version of McFee Virus protection and my PC seems to be running correctly BUT the fact that this keeps being found by Spybot concerns me.

What is MagicControl Agent? Should I be worried about it? Do I need to delete it and if so can I get rid of it?

I will help you clean your PC. In order to proceed I need the latest HJT log.

Run Hijack This. Click on Scan. Once the scan is complete, click on Save log. The log will be saved and will simultaneously open in Notepad as a text file.

Click on Format in the NOtepad toolbar. Make sure that the "Wordwrap" is unchecked. If it is checked then click on it.

Now copy and paste the entire text file in your next reply.

Your HJT log appears to be clean.

BTW, did you set your Start Page or do you want to change it ??

Run Ewido. Click on Update ---> Start Update. After the updates are downloaded and installed, close Ewido. Dont run a scan yet.

Please reboot the PC in Safe Mode.

Run Ewido and do a full scan. Save the scan report.

Run Spybot and do a scan. Save the scan report.

Reboot the PC in Normal Mode and post the Ewido and Spybot scan reports.

Hi Tampa,
Thanks for helping me with this. I should also mention that I am getting pop-ups from nuker.com etc at some sites even though my pop-up blocker is at it's highest level.. think it's related to magiccontroller but not sure.

Also I have set my start page to "about" blank.

After running Spybot S&D I deleted the MagicControl.Agent 1 entry found but it's still there when I run S&D again!

To enable the viewing of Hidden files follow these steps:

• Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
• Double-click on the My Computer icon.
• Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
• After the new window appears select the View tab.
• Put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Display the contents of system folders.
• Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders.
• Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide file extensions for known file types.
• Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.
• Press the Apply button and then the OK button and shutdown My Computer.
• Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files.

Reboot the PC in Safe Mode.

Open Windows Explorer (right click on Start and then click on explore). Locate and delete the following file -

c:\windows\system32\zeuscqmkhb.exe


Reboot the PC and post a fresh HJT log.

Did all of that and then noticed file was still there in HJT log so deleted it there too and did another HTL here it is.. amd I just ran Spybot again and Magiccontrol still there

Just wanted to also let you know that even though S&D is still detecting magic.control, mystery pop=ups like nuker.com seem to have stopped.. maybe we are closer to killing magiccotnrol! I feel like a student in Hogwart's school of magic Looking forward to more of your help.

Copy the part in bold below into notepad and save it as fix.reg
Save as type:All files (The first line in the file should be REGEDIT4)

Reboot the PC in Safe Mode.

Double click on fix.reg and let it merge with your registry.

Open Windows Explorer (right click on Start and then click on explore). Locate and delete the following file -

c:\windows\system32\zeuscqmkhb.exe

Reboot the PC and post a fresh HJT log.

Also let me know if the problem persists.
