well we definately have something that is wreaking havoc on your machine, lets see if we can find with this.

Please RIGHT-CLICK HERE to download Silent Runner's.
  • Save it to the desktop.
  • Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
  • You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done, let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
  • Once you receive the prompt All Done!, open the text file on the desktop, copy that entire log, and paste it here.
*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

[*]You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done, let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)

O.K. One hour later... not only did a text file never appear on the desktop (I had to go open it manually from the task manager) - but I also never got the "it's done" prompt.

However, it appears to be complete.

Here's the log:

Click Here to download TheKillbox. Extract TheKillBox.exe from the zip file and double click it to open it up. In the 'Enter Full Path and Filename to Delete' box, copy and paste these entries one by one, clicking the button that has the red circle with a white X in it, after each one:

c:\docume~1\linda\applic~1\refspa~1\long lies more.exe

Click 'Exit' when done.

Note: If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, download and run: http://www.javacools...ngfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again.

After this righ click on your desktop and set it to be an active desktop, it seems that active desktop is turned off on your system.

post a fresh silent runners log and let me know how its going.

ok, lets try something a little radical :tazz:

using taskmanager I would like you to kill both of these processes

iexplore
explorer

Next, open task manager and click file new task and type in c:\windows\system32\dllcache\explorer.exe

Let me know how that works.

First of all, I want to thank you for your time and your help. It is really appreciated.

Now, there have been, yet again, some developments since my last post. I tried opening internet through task manager a while ago, and it kept crashing on me... I was getting quite upset so I got up and went for a walk... ;-)

When I came back, I had a desktop.

And that reminded me that when I reacquired desktop briefly last night, it was under the same circumstances.

I haven't rebooted since (I'm afraid)...

So what it means is that, at the moment, I have a desktop. Does that change what you just asked me to do??

O.K., well, copy/paste doesn't work... this is the best I could do:

X ; for 16-bit app support
- X [drivers]
X wave=mmdrv.dll
X timer=timer.drv
X [mci]
X [driver32]
- X [386enh]
X woafont=app850.FON
X EGA80WOA.FON=EGA80850.FON
X EGA40WOA.FON=EGA40850.FON
X CGA80WOA.FON=CGA80850.FON
X CGA40WOA.FON=CGA40850.FON

("X" for checked)

All boxes are checked

ok, next I need you to do the following.

NOTE:Just so you know, more than likely you will lose your desktop again.so it is important for you to please do everything in the order it has been listed.

1st,
Jotti File Submission:
  • Please go to Jotti's malware scan
  • Copy and paste the following file path into the "File to upload & scan"box on the top of the page:
    • C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\explorer.exe
  • Click on the submit button
  • Please post the results in your next reply.
2nd,
Download this zip.

http://www.atribune....ownloads/pv.zip
Please unzip it to the desktop. It will not work if you run it from inside the zip.

After unzipped go to the desktop. Open the pv folder. Double click on the runme.bat

A dos window will open. Please select option 1 for explorer dll's by typing 1 and then pressing enter.

then run it again with option #2 by typing 2 and hitting enter.

Notepad will open with a logs in it. Please copy and paste the logs into this post.

3rd,
Download http://www.bleepingc...es/winpfind.php

Extract WinPFind.zip to your c:\ folder.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode

Then open c:\WinPFind and double-click on WinPFind.exe. When the program is open, click on the Start Scan button to scart scanning your computer. Be patient as this scan may take a while. When it is done, it will show a log and tell you the scan is completed. Reboot your computer back to normal mode and and post the contents of c:\WinPFind\WinPFind.txt as a reply to this topic.

4th, while still in safe mode,
Create a Startup List:
  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the configure button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Check off the 2 boxes next to the Box that says "Generate StartupList log"
  • Click on the button "Generate StartupList log"
  • Copy and past the StartupList from the notebook onto your post
then boot back to normal mode and post all the logs I have asked for.
