Hi, my system is running very slowly again...I completed all of the pre-steps, did not show any malware or viruses, but after reboot, still very slow. I've copied my HJT log file below.

Trevuren was a great big help with my last malware infestation, if he is available to help me again, that's great. But I'm happy with any help anyone can provide.

2. You must be online to have this work and do not block any attempts for the program to connect to internet if your firewall asks permission.

2. Double click on 'uninst.exe', let it run and terminate.

3. REBOOT

4. It must be run a second time. It runs very quickly.

5. REBOOT

6. Run HijackThis and with all windows closed except for HJT, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.

Hi Again Trevuren, yes I'm back way too soon LOL

I did all that you said. Funny thing though, I couldn't get memorywatcher.com to open up at first, I finally figured out IESpyAd and the Hosts file protection app that I installed from my LAST malware infection, were blocking the site! However I got it open and ran it as suggested. Here is my new HJT log.

I NEVER recommended anything about Memory watcher. If iESpyads and your enhanced Hosts file block a site, it is for a reason. It is because that site contains material that could do harm to your system. I use both and do not try to circumvent their protection. I suggest you do the same. I strongly suggest that you uninstall memory watcher if it comes from a blocked site.

  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.

  • Now with all the items selected, and all windows closed except for HJT, DELETE them by clicking the FIX checked button and EXIT the program.

  How To Start To Safe Mode In <span style='color:red'>Windows 2000</span>
  • Turn the computer on
  • When you see the black-and-white Starting Windows bar at the bottom of the screen, start tapping the F8 key.
  • The Windows 2000 Advanced Options Menu will appear.
  • Choose the Safe mode option. (it is usually the first item in the list).
  • Use the arrow keys to select it if it is not selected by default.
  • Press Enter. The computer will start in Safe mode.
  • When finished troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.
• Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders (with all their content), and DELETE them (if they are present):

I will go ahead and do this, but before that I must point out that the link you told me to click on above is on the memorywatcher.com site. I could not access your link until I removed memorywatcher.com from those blocking apps.

That is the only change I have made to the way either of those apps run, as is.

Here is my new HJT file...one other annoying thing it is doing (I don't know yet if these fixes have resolved this) is that I keep losing my internet connectivity. Machine will let me on the Internet when I first log on, but after a min or a few times opening and closing the browser, it stops connecting to the Internet. I have to shutdown and turn it back on (just restarting doesn't usually work) to get it to reconnect. I don't know if this is related or not.

• We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.

  • Turn the computer on
  • When you see the black-and-white Starting Windows bar at the bottom of the screen, start tapping the F8 key.
  • The Windows 2000 Advanced Options Menu will appear.
  • Choose the Safe mode option. (it is usually the first item in the list).
  • Use the arrow keys to select it if it is not selected by default.
  • Press Enter. The computer will start in Safe mode.
  • When finished troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.
• Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders (with all their content), and DELETE them (if they are present):

Congratulations, your log shows that your SYSTEM IS CLEAN

There are a few things you must do once you are completely clean:

1. Cleanup the leftovers. Download CleanUP! - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more. Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.


2. Finally, Re-hide your System Files and Folders to prevent any future accidents.


Here are some tips to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future:

Make sure you keep your Windows OS current by visiting Windows update
regularly to download and install any critical updates and service packs. With out these you are leaving the backdoor open.

I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

• Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
• Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
• How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
• How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.

To protect yourself further:

• Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
• MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
• Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
