Computer doesn't shutdown properly

When I go to shutdown it gets to the 'Windows is shutting down' screen and then stops

Frequent cause, Automatic Updates is trying to install updates that don't get along during installation. Turn off AU and update manually a few at a time. You can also use Task Manager to see if programs aren't closing correctly, such as anti-virus programs.
