Let's try this just to make sure it's only chkdsk.exe and nothing else. Go to Start->Run and type in cmd and hit OK. Then type in:

dir c:\winnt\system32\?hkdsk.exe > c:\test.txt

and hit ENTER. Then type exit and hit ENTER. Go to your c: drive and open up test.txt. Post the file contents here and delete that file.

Download KillBox http://www.greyknigh...spy/KillBox.exe. Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. Copy the below files and go back to KillBox. Go to File->Paste from Clipboard and then hit the button with a red circle and white X. Confirm to delete and when asked if you want to reboot, say Yes:

C:\WINNT\DOWNLOADED PROGRAM FILES\OSD149F.OSD
C:\WINNT\Downloaded Program Files\WinadX.inf

If you get a PendingOperations message, close it and restart your computer manually.

Restart and run a new Panda scan. Post the log here.

Delete this file -> C:\WINNT\system32\remon.sys

Boot into Safe Mode and run the Ewido scan. Save the log.

Restart and run a Panda scan. Choose to do the auto clean if you see the option. Then post that Panda log here along with a new HijackThis log and the Ewido log you saved earlier.

Go to Start->Run and type in notepad and hit OK. Then copy and paste the following into Notepad:

sc stop TESV
sc delete TESV
del delete.bat

Save the file as "delete.bat". Make sure to save it with the quotes. Double click on it.

Check and fix this in HijackThis:

O23 - Service: TASKESV (TESV) - Unknown owner - C:\WINNT\taskcntr.exe (file missing)

Run Ewido scan again. Save the log.

Restart and post the Ewido log along with a new HijackThis log.

Go to Start->Run and type in notepad and hit OK. Then copy and paste the following into Notepad:

sc stop TESV
sc delete TESV
del delete.bat

Save the file as "delete.bat". Make sure to save it with the quotes. Double click on it.

Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc Tools->Delete an NT service and type in TESV and hit OK.

Go to Start->Run and type in services.msc and hit OK. Then look for TASKESV (TESV) and double click on it. Click on the Stop button and under Startup type, choose Disabled.

Check and fix this entry in HijackThis (if found):

O23 - Service: TASKESV (TESV) - Unknown owner - C:\WINNT\taskcntr.exe (file missing)

Restart and post a new HijackThis log.

Yep, that did it. Good job :tazz:

Your log is clean.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.

greyknight17,

First up, 1 million thank you for all your time and effort. It was surely a learning process for me and I definitely will be staying with this site. I will also make a contribution to the 2 accounts listed.

I accessed the tutorial site as instructed but was not able implement the steps since my ISP has been offline since then. I'm not sure when the service will return.

In light of that should we keep this thread going or should we close and I would start a new one if I need to during my prevention set up process. Also, I already had Microsoft Antispyware loaded, should I remove it or continue using along with other recommende spyware.

Thanks again
Hasgtg805 :tazz:

We can keep this topic opened but if it's for the antispyware protection/prevention programs, you can start a new topic for them. They shouldn't give you any problems, but if you have questions feel free to ask us. We'll be glad to answer them :tazz:

You may keep Microsoft AntiSpyware if you wish, but I no longer advise users to use it anymore. They are setting some of the spyware programs out there to Ignore instead of the usual Remove....

Any other questions before I close this topic?

greyknight17,

My ISP service has returned and I have installed spyware blaster, spywareguard, iespyad and hosts.

I tried installing firefox and regseeker but without success. Will continue with IE in the meantime.

No further virus problem for the time being therefore we can close on this topic. will start a new one for the prevention setup problems above.

Thanks again
