I like to think of myself as relatively savvy, but this commy "Aurora" somehow got in. It looks like it came along with a domain registry wizard I downloaded yesterday. I've uninstalled all the executable files I can find in SystemSuite's uninstaller, I've run Ad-Aware and AVG scans, and I can't get rid of this. Below is the HijackThis logfile. Thank you to whomever helps me! ~Jennifer :tazz:

Hi Jennifer and welcome to GTG.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Please download Ewido Security Suite at http://www.ewido.net/en/download/.

1. Install Ewido Security Suite.
2. When installing, under 'Additional Options' uncheck:
* Install background guard
* Install scan via context menu
3. Launch Ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double click it.
4. The program will now open to the main screen.
5. When you run Ewido for the first time, you will get a warning 'Database could not be found!'. Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
6. You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files.
* On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
* Then click on Start Update.
7. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed. The status bar at the bottom will display 'Update successful'.
8. Exit Ewido. DO NOT scan yet.

If you are having problems with the updater, you can go to http://www.ewido.net...wnload/updates/ to update manually.

Download Nailfix Utility at http://www.noidea.us...050711214630636 Save it to your desktop. Do NOT run it yet.

Download dsrfix.zip http://www.atribune....oads/dsrfix.zip and save it to your desktop. Unzip the dsrfix.zip contents to your desktop. This will create a new folder on your desktop named dsrfix. Do NOT open that folder yet.

Download APT http://www.diamondcs...ex.php?page=apt and unzip the contents to a new folder on your desktop.

* Open the folder you just created and click on apt.exe and search in the window for hhtgey.exe.
* Open your C:\Windows\system32 folder and search for hhtgey.exe. Don't delete it yet, just leave the system32 folder open so you can see the bad file.
* In APT again, Select hhtgey.exe and Click Kill3.
* Then immediately delete hhtgey.exe from your system32 folder.

Close APT.

Download CleanUp! http://cleanup.stevengould.org/ (Alternate Link if main link don't work - http://www.greyknigh...spy/CleanUp.exe ) and install it. Don't run it yet.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.

Once in Safe Mode, double click on nailfix.exe.
Click 'Next' in the setup, then make sure 'Run Nailfix' is checked and click 'Finish'.
Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

CleanUp! deletes EVERYTHING out of your temp/temporary folders, it does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp!. Run CleanUp! and click on the Options button. Uncheck 'Scan local drives for temporary files'. Also uncheck those two Newsgroup entries if you don't want to delete them. Click OK and then click on the CleanUp! button. Let it run. After it's done, choose Yes to logoff.

Now open Ewido and do a scan on your system.

* Click on scanner
* Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
* NOTE: During some scans with Ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
o You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
o If Ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
o Do NOT select 'Perform action on all infections'
o If you are unsure of any entry found, select none for now as the action.
* Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
* Click Save report.
* Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

NOTE: The 04 entry may have changed names if you have rebooted since posting the log; look for an entry with a similar format, that will always end in a single letter r.

Now open the folder dsrfix on your desktop.
* Double click on dsrfix.bat
* A window will pop up briefly then close, this is normal.

Locate and delete the following:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\hhtgey.exe (or whatever the name may have changed to, as noted above).
C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
C:\WINDOWS\dsr.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\pkshkoor.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wodnezdl.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\nsc27F.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\lanbrup.exe
C:\WINDOWS\dinst.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\pshwr.exe
C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

Restart your computer.

Download FindIt's.zip http://forums.net-in...=post&id=142443 to your desktop.

1. Unzip/extract the files to a folder on your desktop.
2. Open the folder. Double click on FindIt's.bat and wait for Notepad to open a text file. It will take a while so please be patient... Note: If you are having problems using FindIt's.bat (16 bit error), copy autoexec.nt from the C:\WINDOWS\repair folder to C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder. Now try running FindIt's.bat.
3. Then post the FindIt's log here along with the logs for HijackThis and Ewido.

Hey, I just woke up, brought my pc out of hybernation, and AVG found EIGHT viruses. Should I give you a new Hijack This logfile before I get started on all these steps you recommended?
Thanks so much!

Wait a minute. You said this is the HijackThis log before the fix? I want a new HijackThis log after you did all the fixes. Otherwise you'll just be showing me an older log (since the fixes were done and the changes are not reflected with the log before the fixes).

Delete these files:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\creditcard32123123123asdsa123.ico
C:\WINDOWS\system32\kill all spyware.ico
C:\WINDOWS\system32\popupblocker1231.ico
C:\WINDOWS\system32\virushunter4.ico

Give me a new HijackThis log.

I apologize.
(fyi: 99% of the problems are gone, but I'm still getting small popups about 30% of the time I go to a new site in IE). Thank you, ~Jennifer

Something is still there, but we'll get rid of it now :tazz:

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Run BOTH of these scans:

Run an online virus scan at TrendMicro http://uk.trendmicro...call_launch.php. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the free online scan. If any viruses/trojans are detected, try to delete or clean them in that site. If any are not cleanable, copy and paste the infected files here. You may also use Panda ActiveScan at http://www.pandasoft...ucts/activescan. Post the log from the Panda scan here.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [blbituh] C:\WINDOWS\blbituh.EXE
O23 - Service: Windows Overlay Components - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\yjhdabp.exe

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\WINDOWS\blbituh.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\yjhdabp.exe

Restart and run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here.

Sorry it took a bit to get back to you. I was away from the computer most of yesterday. Ok, so below is the Panda scan log, then the hijackthis log in safemode, then the hijackthis log after everything... (I couldn't finish the TrendMicro one. I tried twice, but it never gave me a ticket number, or whatever it was. Also, I have the dreaded blue bar vertically across the left of my desktop now. My user profile's corrupt now, right? Thanks.

No need to post before and after logs. I just want the HijackThis log after you have done everything :tazz:

Do you know what this program is for?
O3 - Toolbar: Time Matters - {00F17ECE-12DA-46A0-B541-BDE4EB7DF027} - C:\tmw6\tmietb.dll

If not, fix it in HijackThis and delete that tvw6 folder.

Delete these if found:

C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\JEN\FAVORITES\1111\
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\cache32dsrf4535dfs
C:\WINDOWS\wincsv73.dll

Restart and see if you still have that vertical bar problem. If so, can you take a screenshot of what you see there and post it here? Just hit the Prt Scrn button on your keyboard and save it on MS Paint.

I also want you to run the Ewido scan in Safe Mode and then restart and post the log here.

The Time Matters file is legit.
Before I forget, the last two times I've shut down, I get the message to click here to end now re: rundll32.exe. What is that?

Blue vertical bar is still on the desktop and a screenshot is attached. The last time this happened, MS support advised me that was due to a corrupt user profile, so I saved all the files and created a new one, and deleted the old user profile. Does that sound about right to you?

Also, I believe I got this virus(s) when I downloaded a free software trial of a domain registry wizard. As soon as I ran it, all this happened. Would you like me to find the site and give you the link so you can have it for your records? I'm 90% sure that's where this nonsense came from. Thanks again... Hopefully we're almost there, lol...

I see what you mean now. That blue pane is usually found in folders only. But you have it on your desktop now.

Does that program you downloaded have the option to change the way Windows look? Did you run anything in that program and can you revert back to the way it was before?

If not, I would say creating a new user account is probably the way to go. Before you migrate anything, create a new user account and see if it has the same problem. It shouldn't be too hard to migrate over the files since most of them are in your username folder. Just copy them over to the new account folder in c:\documents and settings\.

You said the last time this happened....did this happen before with the same program you downloaded?

By the way, cool wallpaper there :tazz:

I started looking online for the program I downloaded Monday, but can't find it, and honestly, that's probably a good thing because I'm afraid even pulling the site up again may infect my laptop again, lol. I just know it was a domain registration wizard tool, nothing like the recognizable registrars have. I downloaded it and installed it, and instantly I had popups for every window I opened, and then the other problems followed. The blue bar didn't happen til a couple days later. The blue bar thing actually happened to me about a year ago, can't remember how it happened, but I had no other symptoms that I recall. I had called MS support and that's when I found out the user profile had somehow become corrupt. That's my only experience with that blue bar. I hate it! :tazz:

Is my laptop clean now? Should I run any more scans, etc. for you? If you think my laptop is, then I'll migrate my files into a new user profile. Every time I run a scan of AVG or Adaware, they both still find files and quarantine them. Do I leave all the programs you had me install on my computer?

Thanks so much for your help! Once this is resolved, if I have a problem months down the road, do you like to be contacted via your website or through here?

Thanks for the comment on the wallpaper. I took that myself in Cayman earlier this year... (attached) :) ~Jennifer

OK, I will give you some prevention programs now so if you do ever encounter that bad site again, these programs should detect it (if it is indeed bad):

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Yes, according to your logs, the laptop is now clean :)

For those programs I asked you to install in Post #2 here, you may delete them as if they were just plain files/folders. Keep Ewido (compatible with most antivirus programs, so you may have two) and CleanUp (good to have for regular temp folder cleaning). Both are good to have.

It's your choice. You may post here or at my forum. If you post here and don't get a reply within a few days, you may PM me the link to your topic instead. Or just post in my forum and you should get a reply within 24 hours :)

Great camera shot. Have one in 1024x768 by any chance? :tazz: It probably won't fit my whole screen. Good pic nevertheless :)

Any more problems/questions before I close this topic and mark it resolved?

Am I missing something, lol, or did you forget to actually type the programs you were going to suggest? And I take it Adaware isn't sufficient? (I guess it never runs automatically, you have to run it, right?). I have System Suite 4.0, which is great, and I will be more diligent about using all of its utilities, too, and that should keep my hard drive cleaner, in itself.

I'm emailing you the largest version of that pic I have (1300x863) and a couple other ones. I think for the one on my desktop I just clicked "stretch" rather than "center".

In the future I'll probably contact you directly through your site. You're a God-send!!! Thanks so much! ~Jennifer
