How do I install Linux on a computer? Don't I have to partition it in a special way and then format the Hard Drive and change it to a Linux file system? How do I do that?

I want a single boot system. The distribution is Slax.

Slax is found at http://slax.linux-live.org/

I downloaded it and burned the iso. It comes with a program called Slax Installer, but I don't know how to install it.

I want to install Slax onto the HD and run it from there. When Slax boots, it goes straight to a login screen, and from there, the KDE desktop. In the menu, you can find a program called Slax Installer. The help file says you must have a partition that's formatted for Linux before you can install Slax. That's what I don't know how to do. Do you know how to do that? :tazz:

Partition Magic isn't included in Slax, but I found it by doing a Google search. Thanks. I'll try it out as soon as I get home from school.

Partition magic costs $$$. I just edited my windows partition successfully yesterday, using QTparted. Check to see if that's included with Slax, and if not download knoppix. Also slax is based on slackware, and on slackware you have to manually partition using cfdisk or fdisk.

Goodluck!
