Today I down loaded some normal norton updates from symantec with the automatic update. meanwhile the autoscan of norton started, and after the update was finish he advised me several times to restart. by mistake i accepted it on the third time, while the scan was still on.
now, when the computer starts it is always stucks in a black screen after 10 sec. i can only go to the bios setup with F2.

Do you have any sugestions?

Give it another go then try here

http://www.theelderg..._windows_xp.htm

Use last in list, Windows Installation CD to repair the current installation

You will need to Boot the PC, tap F2 or delete key to enter set up, change the boot priority to CD ROM Drive, press F10 to save and exit, type Y to confirm, open the CD ROM Drive, put the XP CD in then press enter to reboot.

try going into safe mode and run a scan with norton and let it finish and then reboot into normal mode. I have no clue if this will work or not but maybe it will make norton realize it's done with the scan that was aborted earlier.

And I would suggest that you turn off automatic updates in norton and do the updates yourself once a week from now on.

Completely turn off (shut down) the computer and then restart it and continually hit F8 (about once a second) until the screen peterm stated shows up
