Recently my HP zd7020us laptop is having boot problems.

By observation, when the laptop is cool (off for awhile and stored in a cool place),
it boots and works fine.

When the laptop is warm though I often get the following repeating boot error
message:

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM.

The default BIOS boot order is: 1. removable 2. CD ROM 3. HD 4. network
If I disable ALL of these EXCEPT harddrive (HD) I get different behavior:
no error and no boot -- just black screen.

Any ideas on what the problem is and how to fix?

Hi and welcome to Geeks to Go. I would suspect heat is the problem. Have you verified the fans are working and clean?

Agree with austin, sounds like your hard drive is getting too hot.
