in school for computer networking and have built and maintained my own system for over 5 years. I only tell you this so you
can talk in the "terminology" if you wish
. I have a Compaq Presario 2200 notebook. It is on loan from my father and the first thing I noticed the Norton AV was not operating and was expired so I assume anti virus protection was not kept current
(despite my repeated reiteration to him about that..lol). The Norton updater keeps popping up asking if I want to install
updates to which I decline.The problem began with suspected WinFixer infection as it would pop up and when you try to close
it, it takes you to a site where it tries to download stuff (technical term..lol) Now it seems to have succeeded at getting
in and seems to be in the system registry somewhere because I have scanned with AVG and AdAware and CleanUp prior to coming
to the forum. When computer is rebooted, it is back. Now I receive the pop up window for Win Fixer but I am not directed to
any site and it reports an error. But there are a lot of pop ups now even with the pop up blocker set on high. So, I followed
your recommendations and steps from your forum and this is what I have done so far:
1. Ran and completed clean up, deleted and rebooted
2. Ad Aware ran with custom scan options per your request. Files deleted, system rebooted.
3. CW Shredder completed a scan (nothing found there).
4. Ran Spybot S&D, completed scan, and rebooted.
5. Went to Panda, ran active scan where it revealed one spyware (which is just my AdAware program and one suspicious file
(which was the trojan hunter program I D/L and ran with no trojans found)
6. Ran, completed and saved the Ewido report where three items were found and cleaned.
7. Windows XP has been updated from Microsoft and his already has SP2
8. Ran Hijack This, saved report with the results shown below.
