Howdy and welcome to G2G:

Pop the XP cd into the cd-rom and reboot..

Watch the screen.. When it says "Press to boot from cd", press the key it stipulates..

From there, just follow the prompts.. When you get to the setup options, use the one to remove all partitions and install XP..

BTW, this will only work with an authentic XP cd.. Burned or copied disks are different..

But the thing is, it just boot up, it doesnt boot from the CD.

You will have to boot into BIOS (setup) and change the first boot device to the cd-rom..

Your Dell manual should give you those instructions - how to get to BIOS (setup) and where the boot options are located..
