Im back...since I was last here, I moved, got a hurricane and had some other stuff happen.

I got ZoneAlarm Firewall which has been keeping the Aurora off my back but I have been having problems with my other programs such as AIM and random IE popups.

I run Firefox and ONLY Firefox...I cant open my IE without being mauraded by spyware, and last time I was here I couldnt even open it.

Please help. Here is an HJT log.

Welcome to the Geeks To Go forum.:tazz:

that's a nice collection you have.:)

Firstly:-

Click Start > Run > type services.msc, then click OK
Scroll down and right click on 'Windows Overlay Components'
Select 'Properties' and set the "Service Status" option to "Stop"
Set "Startup type" to "Disabled", click Apply, then OK.

do the same for Windows VisFx Components

Then :-

Step 1

Configure Windows to Show all hidden files & folders and ensure you're familiar with rebooting into Safe Mode.

Download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite from here.
Setup the program following the instructions here and update the program with the latest definitions.
Then close it without running a scan. We'll use it in Safe Mode.

Download Nailfix from here.
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Download and install Cleanup! from here to your desktop.

Download dsrfix.zip from here and unzip it to your desktop (you should have a dsrfix folder on the desktop if you've done this correctly).

Download APT and unzip the contents to a new folder on your desktop.

Copy the below steps to notepad, close Internet Explorer and disconnect from the internet.

Step 2

We'll take care of the Epolvy Trojan as it reinstalls Nail.exe on reboot if not removed first.

It's easy to spot in your log. It's the random '04' HKLM entry with an 'r' after the .exe process. In your previous log it was:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: yohsyo] C:\windows\system32\zgiagqp.exe r

Take a scan with HijackThis (don't fix anything) and note down the exact filepath of this file. C:\Windows\System32\random r

Now open the APT folder you've just created and click on apt.exe and search in the window for C:\Windows\System32\random.exe

Open your C:\Windows\system32 folder and search for C:\Windows\System32\random.exe

Don't delete it yet, just leave the system32 folder open so you can see the bad file.

In APT again, Select C:\Windows\System32\random.exe and Click Kill3

Then immediately delete C:\Windows\System32\random.exe from your system32 folder.

Close APT.

Step 3

Reboot into Safe Mode and double-click on nailfix.exe.

Click "Next" in the setup, then make sure "Run Nailfix" is checked and click "Finish".

Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Step 3

Now open ewido and do a scan of your system.
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
  • Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.
Then close Ewido Security Suite.

Step 4

Run HijackThis again and place a check before the following entries (if still present):

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://ie.redirect.h...ario&pf=desktop
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://ie.redirect.h...ario&pf=desktop

O23 - Service: Windows VisFx Components - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\qtqysvc.exe

Close ALL OPEN WINDOWS except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Step 5

Now open the dsrfix folder on your desktop.

Double-Click on dsrfix.bat

A window will pop up briefly then close, this is normal.

Step 6

Now using Windows Explorer find and delete the following files/folders:

C:\Program Fileswebsx << This folder
C:\Program Files\Privacy Champion << This folder
C:\WINDOWS\xtnasdo.EXE << This file
C:\WINDOWS\dinst.exe << This file
c:\windows\system32\uffehtx.exe << This file
C:\WINDOWS\bmwwenc.EXE << This file
C:\WINDOWS\ispidll.EXE << This file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\io4qq5hl.exe << This file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\richup.exe << This file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\regsync.exe << This file
C:\Program Files\websx\int1413.exe << This file

Step 7

Now run CleanUp!.

*IMPORTANT NOTE*

CleanUp deletes EVERYTHING out of your temp/temporary folders, it does not make backups.
If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp

Click the Options button.
Make sure only the following are checked:
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files (XP only)
  • Scan local drives for temporary files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click the Ok button to close the Options dialog.
Click the CleanUp! button to begin cleaning. It may take a while depending on the size of the hard drive so be patient.
When it has finished, close CleanUp! but decline to logoff when prompted.

Step 8

Restart your computer in normal mode and post a fresh HijackThis log and Ewido log.

Mission complete, buddy.

Alright, everything went well...except one thing. In Step6 you told me to delete some files but when I went in, they werent there. These files, with the exception of the bolded one.

C:\Program Fileswebsx
C:\Program Files\Privacy Champion
C:\WINDOWS\xtnasdo.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\dinst.exe
c:\windows\system32\uffehtx.exe
C:\WINDOWS\bmwwenc.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\ispidll.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\system32\io4qq5hl.exe <- Found this one.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\richup.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\regsync.exe
C:\Program Files\websx\int1413.exe

Maybe they were deleted in the process?

Anyway, here are the logs.

good job, nearly finished. most of those files will have been removed during the process, but we had to check.

there is just the one file that we didn't get rid of.

if you have rebooted the computer since posting your log this file name will have changed.

it is an 04 entry with random letters with an "r" at the end.

rerun HJT and check if it is the same name as in the fix below, if not,put the new name

in the fix in it's place.

Step 1

Download Process Explorer from here.

Run Process Explorer and find the following process in the list of processes:

zmkaks

Select the process and click Process > Suspend.

Step 2

Then in HijackThis click Config | Misc Tools | Delete a file on reboot.
In the explorer Window select the file C:\WINDOWS\system32\hnolexk.exe r
When prompted if you want to reboot click YES
Leave Process explorer running with the process suspended.

Step 3

After the reboot, run HJT and place a checkmark before the following entries:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [zmkaks] C:\WINDOWS\system32\hnolexk.exe r

Close ALL OPEN WINDOWS/BROWSERS and click Fix Checked.

then post a fresh HJT log.

Wow...I cant find it.

Is there any specific part I should look under, what will be the name of it? Will it be alone or part of a long string like how it is written in the HJT?

Sorry, I cant find the little bugger.

we'll leave the processxp for the minute.

Rerun HJT,and put a checkmark beside these :-

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [zmkaks] C:\WINDOWS\system32\hnolexk.exe r

now close all windows and browsers and click FIX CHECKED

then reboot and post a fresh HJT log.

just as i thought. :tazz:

when you couldn't find it in procesxp, the file was gone, just the entry was left. :)

that looks clean now.:)

DISABLE SYSTEM RESTORE run your anti virus, when you get the all clear
restart your system restore.(same page).then create a new restore point :-

click START\ALL PROGRAMS\ACCESSORIES\SYSTEM TOOLS\SYSTEM RESTORE. click on "create new restore point"
click on NEXT and follow the prompts.

this is to ensure that if you have to do a system restore in the future that you don't get all the nasties reinstalled again.

Then

Go to TOOLS\INTERNET OPTIONS. and delete all TEMP INTERNET FILES

Download CCLEANER

then run the scan under the windows tab.

then DEFRAG your C:\ drive.

to help speed up your system.

then let us know how the computer is running.

Ran Norton Antivirus 2004, turned up clean.

Right now Im defragging and my internet is running a little slow due to the defrag, but other than that, I havent had much of a problem. Is there anything else I need to do or am I clean now?

you're clean. :)

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

DISABLE SYSTEM RESTORE run your anti virus, when you get the all clear
restart your system restore.(same page).then create a new restore point.
this is to ensure that if you have to do a system restore in the future that you don't get all the nasties reinstalled again.

Then

Go to TOOLS\INTERNET OPTIONS. and delete all TEMP INTERNET FILES

Download CCLEANER

then run the scan under the windows tab.

then DEFRAG your C:\ drive.

to help speed up your system.

Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:

From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
Click once on the Security tab
Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
Click once on the Custom Level button.

Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to prompt

Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable

Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable

Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt

Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt

Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt

When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.

If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.

Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

See this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs:

Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources

Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

Understanding and Using Firewalls

Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit [red]http://www.windowsupdate.com[/red] regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware , Malware, and Hijackers

Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. you should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer

Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.
