After getting rid of WinFixer, I now have WinAntiSpyware, which I have a stinking suspicion is the same thing with a different name.

Hi pgb and welcome to the Geeks to Go Forums.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

1. Go to Geeks to Go
. Click on My Controls at the top right hand corner of the window. (make sure you have signed in first)
. In the left hand column, click "View Topics"
. If you click on the title of your post, you will be taken there

2. Also, while at the My Controls page, check the box to the right of your post and then scroll down.
.Where it says "unsubscribe" click the pull-down menu and select "immediate email notification"

3. This time it is VUNDO

4. Your system is infected by the VUNDO trojan
  • Download VundoFix.zip to your desktop.
    • Double-click VundoFix.zip and extract it to your C:\ directory.
  • Copy the instructions below and paste them into Notepad for reference.
    • All other windows need to be closed while doing this fix!
  • Navigate to the new folder C:\VundoFix

  • Double click on KillVundo.bat
    • When it starts running it will tell you that you need an active internet connection then ask you to press any key once you do.
  • Please press any key to continue.

  • Wait for HiJackThis to open.

  • When HiJackThis opens, click Do a system scan only. Place a check next to the following items, if found:

    O2 - BHO: Popup Manager - {08E74C67-99A6-45C7-94DA-A397A8FD8082} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\repair\imgmsvc.dll
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: imgmsvc - C:\WINDOWS\repair\imgmsvc.dll

  • Once they all have a check next to them, click the FIX CHECKED button, then EXIT HiJackThis.

  • You will once again be prompted to press any key.

(Upon doing so this time, you will receive a "Blue Screen Of Death". Don't worry, this is normal! Let the computer reboot. If it doesn't boot straight to windows, manually turn the computer off and then back on.)

  • Once the computer is rebooted post a new HiJackThis log as well as the contents of vundofix.txt which can be found in this folder: C:\VundoFix
Regards,

Trevuren

It sometimes takes a couple of kills

The Vundo Fix was included; it was the "Successfully Deleted". And once again, the computer has not rebooted. I had to manually restart via the start menu.

Apparently, the new Vundo fix does not work on your infection.

Let's try the older tool by Symantec:

http://securityrespo...moval.tool.html

Please post back a fresh HJT log after you have finished.

Thanks,

OK KnuxFive. One more attempt with a twist and then, if required, I take the case to the Experts Forum.

We must disable Spy Sweeper for it may interfere with our fix

To disable SpySweeper:
  • Open SpySweeper, click >Options over to the left then >program options >Uncheck "load at windows startup".
  • Over to the left, click "shields" and uncheck all there.
  • Uncheck "home page shield".
  • Uncheck 'automaticly restore default without notifiction
=========================================

Regards,

Trevuren

Once again, the system never reboots. After deleting the things via Hijack This, the KillVudos box disappears.

I'll take your case with the results of these two searches to the Experts Forum and see what they come up with. So, in the meantime, just sit back and relax.

1. Download "Registry Search Tool" (RegSrch.vbs) from HERE

2. Start it and paste in imgmsvc.dll.

3. Wait for it to complete the search, click ok at the prompt.

4. Then when wordpad opens, copy the text as a reply into this thread.

5. Repeat the search with imgmsvc

6. Post that result into the thread also

Regards,

Trevuren
