boot up and shut down takes ages!

HI EVERYTIME I TURN MY PC ON AND WAIT FOR THE MAIN WINDOWS LOGIN PAGE TO LOAD IT TAKES AGES TO BOOT UP AND THEN WHEN I TRY AND SHUT IT DOWN IT TAKES AGES ASWELL BUT WHEN IAM USING THE INTERNET ITS SOOO FAST

IF ANY1 COULD HELP ME I WOULD BE GREATFUL MANY THANKS
