Please print out these instructions or copy them into a text file on your Desktop for easy access.

During the fix, u will be asked to fix some entries, delete some files or uninstall some programs. If in case, you do not see those entries / files / programs, please make a note of it. Continue with the fix and in your next post please inform me of all deviations from the fix prescribed.

1. Download Programs

Please download these programs and save them in a new folder on your desktop -

CleanUp
Ewido Security Suite

Install Ewido, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

dsrfix.zip

• Unzip dsrfix.zip and extract it to your desktop.
• This will create a new folder on your desktop named dsrfix.
• Do Not open that folder yet.

CWShredder

Update CWShredder

* Open CWShredder and click I AGREE
* Click Check For Update
* Close CWShredder


2. Remove Infections

Click on Start ---> Run. Type Services.msc and hit enter. Locate the item - WinTools for IE service. Right click on it and then click on properties. In the Startup Type choose the option Disable. Close the window.

Restart the PC in Safe Mode (repeatedly tap the F8 key when the PC is starting up).

Run CWShredder. Click I Agree, then Fix and then Next, let it fix everything it asks about.

Run CleanUp and delete all temp files including temporary internet files

Run Ewido full scan. Let it fix any items it finds.

3. Run Hijack This

Run Hijack This and click on scan. The following items need to be fixed -

Close all windows other than Hijack This. Check the boxes next to above items and click on Fix checked.

4. Delete Rogue files

Now open the folder dsrfix on your desktop.

• Double-Click on dsrfix.bat
• A window will pop up briefly then close, this is normal.

Open Windows Explorer (right click on Start and then click on explore). Locate and delete the following folders and files -

C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinTools


Files
C:\WINDOWS\ceres.dll
C:\WINDOWS\dsr.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sfg_3544.dll
C:\WINDOWS\dinst.exe

Clear out the files in the Prefetch folder. Go to start> run> type into the box Prefetch. It will open the folder Prefetch. Delete all the files in that folder. Dont delete the folder, only the files in it !!!!!!!!

Run Hijack This. Click on config ---> Misc Tools ---> Delete an NT Service. Type in WinToolsSvc and hit enter.

Reboot the PC in Normal Mode.


Run Hijack This and post a fresh HJT log along with Ewido scan report.

I did everything you said. In step 2, i tried to delete wintools for ie service in services.msc and i got the error 'configuration manager: a required entry in the registry is missing or an attempt failed.

after i ran the ewido scan, it froze on me in safe mode but quarantined everything. i was unable to get a scan report from it.

in step four i was able to delete the folder you told me to, but not the files.

after i reran hijack this and went to misc. tools > delete an nt service wintoolssvc was listed but not able to be found.

everything else worked fine and my computer seems to be but for one small thing. my start menu is in classic style as are my toolbars and scrollbars and windows. when i right click on desktop > properties > appearance only windows classic style is listed under windows and buttons. did i delete something wrong?

You have Norton and Trend Micro installed on your PC. Keep the Trend Micro Firewall but uninstall the anti-virus program. We also installed Ewido for the fix and it can now be uninstalled. Conflicts can arise between multiple anti-virus programs and can severely hamper the performance of the PC.

zip it and MOVE the luna.msstyles which is present in that folder you unzipped to next folder: C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes\Luna
Don't move it to anywhere else than that folder!

When moved it there, rightclick on your desktop > properties ... and look if Windows XPstyle is now present again. Choose apply and OK.

If not, reboot first, and try again to select Windows XPstyle

Reboot the PC and post back a fresh HJT log

This will not delete the programs from your PC. This will only disable the programs from running at Start up and result in a faster PC. You can always run the programs manually by using the respective exe files or the shortcuts.

After this, please visit Windows security and critical updates and get all the updates and patches and install them on your PC.

Reboot the PC and post a fresh HJT log.

For the most part is it good, but occasionally it is slow and freezes.

I suggest that defragment your hard disk.

Boot your PC in Safe Mode. Click on Start ---> Programs ---> Accessories ---> System Tools ---> Disk Defragmentor.

Defragment all your hard disk drives (primarily C:\ drive).


Since your PC is currently clean, create a system restore point. A system restore would enable you to revert to the settings on the PC when the restore point was created. It is also a good idea to flush all earlier system restore points which may be containing infected files.

A. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

B. Restart your computer.

C. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

System Restore will now be active again.
