I finally made it through all the steps and darn it if my computer isn't still slow and I still get a winfixer popup. Here's my hijackthis log. Now, I can't find my ewido log...ugh

Hi freckledcutie and Welcome to Geeks to Go.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

1. If you haven't logged in go to Geeks to Goand do so. Then proceed to item a. If you already have logged in, go directly to item a.

a. Click on My Controls at the top right hand corner of the window.
b. In the left hand column, click "View Topics"
c. If you click on the title of your post, you will be taken there

2. Also, while at the My Controls page, check the box to the right of your post and then scroll down.
.Where it says "unsubscribe" click the pull-down menu and select "immediate email notification"

3. Please DELETE your current HJT program from its present location.

4. Download and run the following HijackThis autoinstall program from Here HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

A. Close ALL windows except HJT

B. SCAN with HJT and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')

C. POST the log in this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS MOST OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

I'm so confused...I don't even know where this post is. I clicked on the link in your steps program that said post your hijack log here...I don't seem to know where I posted it.

Anyway, is there a problem with the hijack log I downloaded from your site? I don't understand why you want me to delete it. Am I understanding that you want me to download it again? I'm not sure. Anyway, when I downloaded it the first time, I did as instructed and saved it in a c:hjt folder. Then, whenever I did the scan it kept telling me it was in a temp folder. How do I make it into a permanent folder? Thanks!

Your system is infected by the VUNDO trojan

Download VundoFix.zip to your desktop.
- Double-click VundoFix.zip and extract it to your C:\ directory.
Copy the instructions below and paste them into Notepad for reference.
- All other windows need to be closed while doing this fix!
Navigate to the new folder C:\VundoFix
Double click on KillVundo.bat
- When it starts running it will tell you that you need an active internet connection then ask you to press any key once you do.
Please press any key to continue.
Wait for HiJackThis to open.
When HiJackThis opens, click Do a system scan only. Place a check next to the following items, if found:

O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\system\svcfont.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: svcfont - C:\WINDOWS\system\svcfont.dll
Once they all have a check next to them, click the FIX CHECKED button, then EXIT HiJackThis.
You will once again be prompted to press any key.

(Upon doing so this time, you will receive a "Blue Screen Of Death". Don't worry, this is normal! Let the computer reboot. If it doesn't boot straight to windows, manually turn the computer off and then back on.)
Once the computer is rebooted post a new HiJackThis log as well as the contents of vundofix.txt which can be found in this folder: C:\VundoFix

1. If your version of BearShare is NOT the paid version but the freeware version I strongly recommend that you remove it from your system. The paid for version is fine. If you decide to remove it, here is a list of safe/unsafe alternatives to choose from:

2. Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:
- Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
- Choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
- Uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
- Close the window with ok

Reboot Your System in Safe Mode

How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode
- Restart the computer.
- As soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
- Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
- Press Enter.
Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and DELETE them (if they are present):

ALCXMNTR.EXE<==You will have to Search for this one
Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE
Finally, RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everything looks now.

The only thing I wasn't sure of is if I was required to post new messages for all my hijack this logs...sorry if I should have done that.

Also, I did delete BearShare, but I see it's still in my hijack this log.

Finally, should I hide those files in my control panel that I unhid earlier or did they automatically hide again on restart since I clicked ok instead of apply.

One more thing, how did I get the vundo trojan? Is there something I can do to prevent this in the future?

Answers:

1. I don't know how you got a specific infection.
2. Implement the recommendationd that I will be offering at the end will limit your chances of getting infected but there are always ways the bad guys get in.
3. Rehiding your files will be part of the last cleanup.

4. Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:
- Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
- Choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
- Uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
- Close the window with ok
Please RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.
Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BearShare] "C:\Program Files\BearShare\BearShare.exe" /pause
Now with all the items selected, and all windows closed except for HJT, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window.
