There seems to be a rash of this going around WinFixer found me last night and will not go away. I have an icon on the system tray which says "0% downloaded - WinFixer 2005 Installer." I have followed all of the steps in your initial instruction thread, including running Adaware, Spybot, Spyware Blaster, online scanners, CWShredder (which will not complete after reboot, I get an error) and running CleanUp, etc. TrojanHunter will not connect to update. Also have not been able to retrieve email since WinFixer arrived.

In addition, my running processes have gone from around 30, to 53, since purchasing this new computer about a month ago. Im obviously having some issues I am not aware of. I do run spyware/adaware protection including a firewall constantly. Here is the current HiJack log after doing what I can through your '"start here" thread.

Yeesh, could not get VundoFix to run in normal mode, would lock up and freeze the computer until I powered down. Apparently everything went well when following your instructions in safe mode though!

Run Spysweeper.

When you open the program, it will prompt you to update to the latest definitions.
Please do so, then click "Sweep Now"
Then click the "Start" button.
When it's done scanning, click the "Next" button.
Remove everything it finds, then save the log - copy the log and paste it here for me.

Sorry for the delays, work all day so can only check this and follow instructions in the evenings. Spy Sweeper could not connect to update, so had to use safe mode again. It found three cookies and cleaned em. Still having problems with browser redirects, email will not connect, and the computer will not restart. Have to power down each time. (while in normal mode, all is fine in safe mode).

Edit: When trying to restart, I get a pop up message that program ccApp is trying to shut down. I close the program, but Windows remains open. However, if I try to do anything I get a message that Windows is shutting down. And that is where it stays until I power down

• Save it to the desktop.
• Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.

Hiya... thanks for the reply. I am not sure what you are asking about my email and redirect issues. I did provide a detailed update at the top of my last post. Did you need information I didn't provide? The problems listed there continue as of right now. Your HJT log looks clean thats why I was surprised that you are still getting browser redirects and other assorted problems.

Silent runner log also looks clean !!!

Lets do two things -

1) Run Hijack This. Click on config ---> Misc Tools. Check the two boxes next to "Generate Startup List". Now click on Generate Startup list. Save the log.

2) Click on Start ---> Settings ---> Control Panel. Double click on Administrative Tools and then double click on Computer Management. Click on System Tools ---> Event Viewer. Under both Application and System, check for some of the error warnings.

Let me know about the common error messages under both of them. We should be able to narrow down the problem here

Hello again. First off, you are correct about the browser redirects. I just experimented with it, loaded up about 50 sites, and not one redirect, as of today at least Thanks.

Email is still not working and I am still getting that dang "ccApp" shut down window whenever I try to restart, or close Windows. Powering down is my only option outside of safe mode. Maybe I messed something up with my attempts to get rid of WinFixer before coming here!

Common Application Errors I see are:

Microsoft Fax - The outgoing routing rule is not valid because it cannot find a valid device. The outgoing faxes that use this rule will not be routed. Verify that the targeted device or devices (if routed to a group of devices) is connected and installed correctly, and turned on. If routed to a group, verify that the group is configured correctly.

Userenv - Windows saved user DENISE\Denise2 registry while an application or service was still using the registry during log off. The memory used by the user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded when it is no longer in use. This is often caused by services running as a user account, try configuring the services to run in either the LocalService or NetworkService account.

And lastly, various application errors and hangs, mostly CWShredder and SpySweeper!

I do have the "Reinstallation CD - Windows XP Home Edition - Service Pack 2" that came with the new Dell.

Put the CD in the CD drive and then click on Start ---> Run. Type in -

sfc /scannow

and hit enter.

This will scan and check the system files.

If I am able to uninstall Service Pack 2, I dont know how! It does not appear on my uninstall list anywhere.

Current status of my computer:

1. WinFixer appears to be long gone, along with the browser redirects - Thanks

2. Email will still not connect unless I am in Safe Mode

3. Still cannot "restart" or "turn off" unless I am in Safe Mode. Have to
hit the power button.

4. I get hyperlink words when looking at websites, they appear
in a body of text, certain words are blue italics and take you to
an ad site if you click them

These are my only issues at this point. 2-3 may not be connected to malware at all and are just something I messed up trying to get rid of WinFixer and all.

Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!
