Hi there.

I get one of two things happeneing on my system.

1. really annoying popups that tell me that my computer needs to be scanned, and when I click cancel, loads IE at winfixer.com

2. popups that go to trafficexplorer.com and have a painted portrait of two girls.

Tried going through a number of threads in this forum already, none seem to help my specific infection. Hope somebody can help. I keep seeing "HiJackThis" program pop up with logs in this forum, so I took the initiative of downloading and running it. Here is my log below. Any ideas?

Hi tmguy and welcome to GeeksToGo! My name is Excal and I will be helping you.

Please download VundoFix.zip to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.zip and extract it to your C:\ directory.
  • Copy the instructions below and paste them into Notepad for reference.
    • All other windows need to be closed while doing this fix!
  • Navigate to the new folder C:\VundoFix
  • Double click on KillVundo.bat
    • When it starts running it will tell you that you need an active internet connection then ask you to press any key once you do.
  • Please press any key to continue.
  • Wait for HiJackThis to open.
  • When HiJackThis opens, click Do a system scan only. Place a check next to the following items, if found:

    O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\cbabc.dll
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: cbabc - C:\WINDOWS\system32\cbabc.dll

  • Once they all have a check next to them, click the FIX CHECKED button, then close HiJackThis.
You will once again be prompted to press any key. Upon doing so this time you will receive a "Blue Screen Of Death". Don't worry, this is normal! Let the computer reboot. If it doesn't boot straight to windows, manually turn the computer off and then back on.

Once the computer is rebooted post a new HiJackThis log as well as the contents of vundofix.txt which can be found in this folder: C:\VundoFix

Great job, it appears your computer is clean :tazz:

Now that your system is Malware Free, it is important to reset your system Restore. Click Here to learn how to.

I recommend that you Defrag your computer before setting your Restore points:

Go to start>all programs>accessories>system tools>Disk Defragmentor Make sure it set to the proper drive (default should be your main driver) and click on defragment

Might I suggest the following Free Spyware programs, if you don't already have them, for added security, you can download them at the following links. These programs work great for detection:

Ad-aware SE
Spybot S&D
Microsoft Anti-Spyware

If you are unhappy with your current antivirus and want to replace it or if you dont already have one, I suggest one of these free programs:
*Note - do not use more than one anti-virus program as it will more than likely cause conflict.

AVG
Avast
AntiVir

The following free programs are great for prevention:

SpywareBlaster 3.4
Spywareguard
IE/Spyad

A Firewall is a must! Here are 3 good free versions:
(do not have more than one firewall running on your system)

Sygate
Kerio
ZoneLabs

There are other options other than Internet Explorer for a browser, which some say have better security. Two of them are:

Firefox
Opera

If you decide to keep Internet Explorer, This site is a great source for tightening up security on It's settings.

Make sure that you keep your Operating System and IE updated with the latest Critical Security Updates from Microsoft...they usually come out once a month, on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, Make sure after you clean your Temp files to empty out your Recycle bin as well.
For ease use the following program:

Cleanup
Run "Cleanup" and when it has finished, Reboot

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided. Also read How I got Infected
