I recently migrated from AOL to Verizon DSL. AOL uses its own browser and popup blockers. Verizon kinda leaves me hanging with IE6. I consider myself an intermediate computer user, meaning that i know what im doing most of the time and i try to solve my own problems when i can. However, i never really used Internet Explorer to much...on to the problem.

Ever since i started using Verizon DSL i got popups, so i tried a few virus, popup, and firewall products before coming across Zone Alarm. This solved the majority of my problems, but it didnt solve all of them. I still continue to get popups from WinFixer2005 and ringtone vendor "Qtones."

any help with getting rid of these is greatly apprciated.

Thank You for your response. I was already using some of the software suggested. I didnt follow the Windows Update directions, because im currently running Windows 2000. I ran the following: S&D, Ad-Aware, Wido Security, TrojanHunter and HijackThis. I have to admit that my system is running much faster, but im still bothered by the popups

Following is the Hijack this log

You may have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:
  • One
    Two
  • Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe.
  • Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.
  • Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!
Note; if you recieve any error messages for CMD or Autoexec.bat>> select option 5 from the l2mfix and once at the site, click on the link that apply to your operating system!
Double-click the file it downloads and extract the files to its predetermined System32 folder!

Then post the log of the L2Mfix

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.
  • From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter
  • Press any key to reboot your computer.
  • After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log.
  • Copy the contents of log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log, and we'll clean up what's left. :tazz:
IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

I tried to run the fix command. Upon reboot, the l2mfix batch file started to run and it generated an error. "explorer.exe/cmd.exe not found in specified location."

I think the program was written to search C:\ by default. However, when I upgraded my OS it was written to D:\ I cannot change the drive letter for the primary boot disk, so is it possible to edit l2mfix to force a search of D:\

double click l2mfix and select option 5 from the l2mfix and once at the site, click on the link that apply to your operating system!
Double-click the file it downloads and extract the files to its predetermined System32 folder!

reboot, then try to run it again with option #2
