That explains why it failed before, because you didn't boot in safe mode without networking support.
You can try this option:

http://service1.syma...c_nam#_Section3

Make sure you UNCHECK safeboot again before you want to boot to normal mode afterwards.

Now for the registery search. I double click to start it, was not sure where to enter rawc35509.sys - so I typed it in the field under 'Enter Search strings (case independent) and click o.k. Here is that log.

Can you boot in safe mode Important!!!

Open Registry search again as you did before.. and in the field, copy and paste: adchannel
You have to enter this in the first line above!

Save that log from registrysearch.

While still in safe mode... open apt and use it again for the 'r' file, because it is still present.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [fkrwnlb] C:\WINDOWS\system32\nhptwp.exe r

So look in your log what filename it is now and search for that filename in apt, select it and choose option: kill3!
You said you have done this before, but I don't think you manually deleted the file afterwards. So kill that file first in apt and delete it manually from your system32 folder!
Hit refresh in apt when you think you have deleted that file manually to see if it really isn't there anymore... because it can be renamed again, you'll recognise it, because it will be random all the time.
Please make sure you perform this before booting back to normal mode and making connection with the internet again!!

When done, boot to normal mode and copy and paste the log from regsearch you made earlier before in safe mode without networking connection in your next post together with a new hijackthislog.

I also see that you still didn't unzip your hijackthis to a permanent folder, so use this version of hijackthis:
http://www.merijn.or...ackthis_sfx.exe

This one is getting installed in your Program Files.

Hello again! Yes, I was able to log in SAFE mode.

Here is the registry log:
REGEDIT4

; End Of The Log...

Next, I went to apt - and located the 'r' file. Could see it in System32 (did not delete - but view it). Went to apt - and did the kill3! on it. I could see it 'flash' away from C:\windows\system32 and immediately go away. No opportunity to delete it from System32. I would re-fresh, re-do hijack to get the 'r', go into apt and kill3, and it goes out of system32 - I did this over 35 times, at least 45 minutes of this. I am thinking I am chasing my tail. Never gives me opportunity to delete from System32 so it never goes away - just rename itself. Any advise appreciated. (I did try to delete it from system32 without the apt kill, but it says it is in use and not allow delete).

Thanks again.

Well, it seems like you did the job though... the r file is not present anymore in your running processes. Let's see if it stays away... if not, I have a nother method also.

Check and fix next entry in hijackthis:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ldkzcvn] C:\WINDOWS\system32\diqbmaz.exe r

Perform a full ewidoscan again afterwards so it can deal with that file.

When done, go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

regedit /e C:\peek.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CoTg3AHmgR89"

Click Ok.

Search on your C:\ for peek.txt and copy and paste the contents in your next reply together with the ewido-log and a new hijackthislog.

Fingers crossed. :tazz:

O.K. - deleted O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ldkzcvn] C:\WINDOWS\system32\diqbmaz.exe r

Things have run a lot better thanks to your instructions! :tazz: I have no more winfixer, and machine in the past was re-booting and it is not doing that anymore. In the past, when I logged in ediwo would pop up that it blocked: abetterinternet.aurora.

Let me know how this looks! Thanks again. :)

Hi, well your hijackthislog looks clean. :tazz:

The r file is gone now. :)
Now let's deal with the leftovers of that other infection. This musst be a piece of cake comparing with the r file. :)

Open notepad and copy and paste next bold in it:
(don't forget to copy and paste Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00)

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CoTg3AHmgR89]

Save this as fix.reg Choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
This is how the regfix must look afterwards: Posted Image
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.

Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

sc delete CdfPSRV

Click OK.

Delete next files if still present:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\scpassam.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\nslkbdda.dll
C:\Program Files\Spyeader <== folder (we deleted already before, but make sure it is really gone)
C:\WINDOWS\system32\atrcmd.exe

Let me know afterwards how things are running

Yes, much easier that pesty 'r' file :)

I have done everything stated.

NOTE: there was no spyeader (also searched and nothing).
And no atrcmd.exe on C:\Windows\System32

There is a C:\Windows\Prefetch\atrcmd.exe-31E0FBC8.pf but I did not remove it as not instructed to do so. :)

Seems to be running good so far (crossing fingers).

Side note: Do you recommend buying ewido? I think this is a 14 day trial? I would seek your advise on how to avoid this in future. We think this all started after a family member downloaded Google Maps. Your opinion is appreciated. Thanks :tazz:

Hi, yes, I already let you delete those two files before in the beginning of your thread, but I let you doublecheck here. :-)

You may delete everything that is in that prefetch-folder. Don't delete the folder itself!

About ewido, well, now you have the plusversion. After 14 days, you have the free version. Difference is, you won't be able to let it guard in the background anymore then. But, you will be able to update it and let it scan once in a while.

To keep this clean in the future, I would suggest the following things:

Install Spywareblaster
SpywareBlaster doesn`t scan and clean for so-called spyware, but prevents it from being installed in the first place. It blocks the popular spyware ActiveX controls, and also prevents the installation of any of them via a webpage.

Avoid illegal sites, because that's where most malware is present.

Let your antispywarescanner(s) scan frequently and don't forget to update before.

And I do suggest you perform an online virusscan once in a while. (Housecall and/or Bitdefender). Because what one virusscanner can't find another one maybe can.
Also make sure that your virusscanner, the one that is installed on your system is always up to date!

Make sure your windows has the latest updates: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

If you are having XP SP2, read here how to configure Security Features for Internet Explorer:
http://www.microsoft...xp/iesecxp.mspx

More info on how to prevent malware you can also find here (By Tony Klein)

Happy surfing again! :tazz:

Thank you for your help and patience :tazz:

I have made a donation to your fight against spyware. (Noticed it was euro dollars, I'm in the U.S. btw).

You have been very patient with me and helpful. . . . thanks
