Hello Alex and welcome to Geeks to Go

As an introduction, please note that I am not Superhuman, I do not know everything, but what I do know has taken me years to learn. I am happy to pass on this information to you, but please bear in mind that I am also fallible.

Please note that you should have Administrator rights to perform the fixes. Also note that multiple identity PC’s (family PC’s) present a different problem; please tell me if your PC has more than one individual’s setting.

Before we get underway, you may wish to print these instructions for easy reference during the fix, although please be aware that many of the required URLs are hyperlinks in the red names shown on your screen. Part of the fix may require you to be in Safe Mode, which will not allow you to access the internet, or my instructions!

You have the Wareout RK infection, plus some other general malware. This fix is in four steps, if all goes well.

I note that you are running HijackThis from Desktop; please create a new folder for it (for example C:\Program Files\Hijackthis\Hijackthis.exe) and move the programme into it. It is very important you do this before anything else since backup files can be deleted if they are not within their own folder!

Firstly could you please disable AOL Spyware Protection from running during the fix, it may just hinder our attempts to change anything.

FIRST POST

Please RIGHT-CLICK HERE to download Silent Runner's.
  • Save it to the desktop.
  • Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
  • You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done, let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
  • Once you receive the prompt All Done!, open the text file on the desktop, copy that entire log, and paste it here.
*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

FOURTH POST

Make sure you are disconnected from the Internet and that all programmes and windows are closed. Run HiJackThis. Place a check mark or tick next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:

O1 - Hosts: localhost 127.0.0.1
O2 - BHO: SearchToolbar - {08BEC6AA-49FC-4379-3587-4B21E286C19E} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\jqawy.dll (file missing)
O3 - Toolbar: SearchToolbar - {08BEC6AA-49FC-4379-3587-4B21E286C19E} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\jqawy.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [hclean32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\hclean32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dmpjo.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\dmpjo.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WareOut] "C:\Program Files\WareOut\WareOut.exe"
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{7962AFE2-7F2E-4B97-A916-E750EC681D28}: NameServer = 69.50.161.130,85.255.112.5
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{81FF7317-9567-437E-9AC8-E405001B825C}: NameServer = 69.50.161.130,85.255.112.5

Close HiJackThis.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\hclean32.exe - File
C:\WINDOWS\System32\dmpjo.exe - File
C:\Program Files\WareOut\ - Folder

Exit Explorer, and reboot as normal afterwards.

Now lets check some settings on your system.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel and double-click on Network Connections
  • Then right click on your Default Connection
    • Usually Local Area Connection for Cable and DSL
  • Left click on Properties.
  • Click the Networking tab.
  • Double-Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item.
  • Select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS Servers Automatically.
  • Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
Make sure to reboot and post back a new HiJackThis log into this topic.

Ok did all that, but I couldn't find hclean32.exe or [b]WareOut\ so I'm assuming they're gone. I found dmpjo.exe[b but I could not delete it because the pop up states "cannot delete because this progam is currently being used" etc etc.

So here's my new hijack:

Hello again Alex

Sorry to leave some of the BB code in the text of the last message.

We have just one entry to deal with, however it looks like it has changed its name from dmpjo.exe to dmuue.exe. I think if you try to delete it in HJT and safe mode, you will get a similar response to the last attempt. For that reason, we must identify the infection so please try this.

Download:WinPFind

Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"

Don't use it yet!

Restart in Safe Mode

From the WinPFind folder-> Doubleclick WinPFind.exe and Click "Start Scan"

It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!

One you see "Scan Complete"-> a log (WinPFind.txt) will be automatically generated in the WinPFind folder.

Restart normally and post the contents of WinPFind.txt

Here ya go!

WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.

Phew! After an hour of reading and researching, I found just two bad files.

Please install Killbox by Option^Explicit.

*Extract the programme to your desktop and double-click on its folder, then double-click on Killbox.exe to start the programme.
*In the Killbox programme, select the Delete on Reboot option.
*Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\Documents and Settings\AlexBPM\Application Data\wo.tmp
C:\WINDOWS\System32\dmqvr.exe

*Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

*Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "Yes" at the reboot now prompt..

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again.

Please delete your temporary files.

Double Click My Computer (WinXP: Navigate to Start >My Computer)

You will see an icon representing your harddrive (most likely C: Drive) Right Click on the hard drive icon and click Properties at the bottom of the fly out window.

On the very first tab (General) you will see a button labelled "Disk Cleanup"...click that button.

Make sure the following are checked:Downloaded Program Files
Temporary Internet Files and
Recycle Bin

Click OK and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.

Next, go to Start>Run>type in %temp% hit Enter and delete the content of all the temp folders shown (only the content, not the folder).

Reboot normally and post a fresh HJT log, for final check.

Just the one entry Alex.

Please set your system to show all files;
please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Rescan with HijackThis. Close all programmes leaving only HijackThis running. Place a checkmark or tick against the following:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dmjco.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\dmjco.exe

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following file, and delete it:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\dmjco.exe

Exit Explorer, and reboot as normal afterwards.

Post back a fresh HijackThis log and I will take another look.
