Please help! I have performed the preliminary steps as outlined and continue to have a problem. I have attached the Ewido and HijackThis logs below. WinFixer 2005 continually disrupts usage and attempts to load software. This computer is my son's who just left for college with a new computer. This is now the family computer. It had a McAfee security program. When this problem started, I attempted to download Norton Internet Security. It would not install completely. I receive the following warnings:

ActiveX
Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result, the page may not display correctly.

Now, when I reboot, I have three error messages as follows:

Error loading C:\Program~1\NewDot~1\NewDot~2.dll. The specified module could not be found.

A necessary file could not be loaded: NAVProd

A necessary component for this function is missingor damaged (C:\Program Files\NortonAntivirus\ccAVMail.dll

In addition, my Windows automatic update ran and gave the following message:
XP Service Pack 2 cannot install.

The following is the HijackThis log:

Hello CoachJim and welcome to Geeks to Go

As an introduction, please note that I am not Superhuman, I do not know everything, but what I do know has taken me years to learn. I am happy to pass on this information to you, but please bear in mind that I am also fallible.

Please note that you should have Administrator rights to perform the fixes. Also note that multiple identity PC’s (family PC’s) present a different problem; please tell me if your PC has more than one individual’s setting.

Before we get underway, you may wish to print these instructions for easy reference during the fix, although please be aware that many of the required URLs are hyperlinks in the red names shown on your screen. Part of the fix may require you to be in Safe Mode, which will not allow you to access the internet, or my instructions!

You have quite a mixture of malware and Trojans that need to be eradicated. This website has a policy of not giving assistance to anyone without the Security Patches issued as per Microsoft. My help here is therefore conditional upon you downloading and installing SP1a at the very least when your system is capable of this. Please tell me in your reply that you agree to this. In the meantime, you are in danger of losing internet access due to a malicious disruption of your LSP chain. Let’s see what we can do with the first sweep.

First, download LSPFix.exe to a convenient location. Do NOT run this program. This is only to be used if you lose Internet Access after removing NewDotNet.

To get rid of NewDotNet, go to:

Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs, and remove the following:

New.Net Applications or New.Net Domains in fact (anything that says New.Net)

If it is not there, go here and follow Procedure 4: NewDotNet.
At the very bottom of that page, it will say:

For NewDotNet removal instructions, please click here

That's where you need to click to get to removal procedure 4 (ONLY if you can't find the New.Net in Add/Remove programs).

In the event that you lose Internet access after removing New.Net, please double-click LSPFix.exe that you downloaded earlier. You will see 2 panels. If there is any file listed in the "Remove" panel on the right-side, leave it as is and just click "Finish>>" then reboot your computer and you should now have access to the Internet.. If nothing is listed under the "Remove Panel", do NOT do anything - just close the programme. You will need to use another computer to come back here for further instructions on what to do.

Post back a fresh HijackThis log and I will take another look.

I apologize for the delay in responding. Thank you very much for your assistance. So far so good. NewDotNet is gone, I think (at least the error message does not come up now.

In response to your question about the Microsoft patches, I had previously downloaded SP1. I wanted to make sure that I had, so I tried to download it again and received the following error message:

Service Pack 1 Setup Error
The Product Key used to install Windows is invalid. Please contact your system administrator or retailer immediately to obtain a valid Product Key. You may also contact Microsoft Corporation's Anti-Piracy Team by emailing [email protected] if you think you purchased pirated Microsoft software. Please be assured that any personal information that you send to the Microsoft Anti-Piracy Team will be kept in strict confidence.

Does that mean that I had previously downloaded it? Or is there another problem? When I check to see which updates are available, Service Pack 2 is the only one that appears. It is my understanding from the introductory materials to this forum that I should not download Service Pack 2 until these other issues are resolved. Is that correct?

Again, thank you for your time and assitance. The following is the HijackThis log after removing NewDotNet:
