My friend is logging into his network, but once on, it gives him this error (winnt32/system32 error 128). Then it shuts down. Would this be the driver to the ethernet cable? Help...

is that the whole message? Generally, that means that a file is missing or corrupted in that directory.

Try
start > run
chkdsk /r
<enter>

say Y to the question, reboot.

If the file is missing or corrupted this may not work, but if the index is simply corrupted, this will set things straight...if this does not repair the issue, you will probably need to run a Windows repair.
