hi im yet another winfixer victim and would be grateful for any help...
im only know the basics as to how to use my computer so a method with the least tampering to my computer's files would be best...

Hello, and welcome to the GeekstoGo Forums. My name is Jfcap,and I will be helping you clean your system. I would like to start off by apologizing in the delay in our response time. We try not to let posts slip through the cracks, but things do happen due the the ammount of posts on our website, so again I apologize.

You have the Vundo Infection! We can definately fix this. However before we get working on the fix, one of our staff experts has requested that you email him one of the files that relate to the vundo infection. (This will help him in creating a better fix for us to use)

Please locate this file:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\xxyyx.dll

Once you locate it, highlight it and zip the file.

Once you have a zipped version of that .dll file, please email it to [email protected]

Then post back and I will post back with a fix

sorry maybe I'm not doing it right but I can't seem to locate the file. I used the Windows search tool, and I also tried to look in C:\WINDOWS\system32\ for that file

Sorry! The file is probably hidden!

Enable show hidden files and folders:

* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK

Then try looking for C:\WINDOWS\system32\xxyyx.dll

Once you locate it, highlight it and zip the file.

Once you have a zipped version of that .dll file, please email it to [email protected]

Then post a new HiJackThis log for me. :tazz:

Atribune is a expert at our forum, he is responsible for creating the fixes that we use (and the one we will use for your infection). The file that you sent him is most likely a new variant of the Vundo infection, and he wants to look at it so he can make his fix even better.

Thanks for posting a new log. I want to double check and make sure that you sent the file before we start with the fix, because it will be deleted when we do the fix.

Let me know if you sent it, and as soon as I hear back from you, I will work up a fix.

Sorry for having you email in two seperate groups. After you email him, please follow the directions below.

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
You will first be presented with a warning and a list of forums to seek help at.

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

Empty Recycle Bins
Delete Cookies
Delete Prefetch files
Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

Also, please let me know if you use the Viewpoint Toolbar, and if you do use it, do you want to keep it?

1) Please download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

2) Then please reboot into Safe Mode by restarting your computer and pressing F8 as your computer is booting up. Then select the Safe Mode option.

3) Once in Safe Mode, please run Killbox.

4) Select "Delete on Reboot".

5) Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy everything in the box below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

6) Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

7) Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again..

Let the system reboot.

Then post a new HiJackThis log for me too look at and we will fix the rest of the issues :tazz:

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
You will first be presented with a warning and a list of forums to seek help at.

Sorry it took so long, but my computer's not working properly in Safe Mode. It always gets to the desktop, then freezes, so I can't see any of the desktop icons.

I can't seem to get the Active Scan results because the window is cut in half and I cant resize to enlarge it. I tried yesterday and again today... It did say that I had some malicious software on my computer.
