Hi there -
I'm another person who has been infected by this WinFixer thing. I have tried everything to fix it and still can't. Hopefully one of you can help me. I've done everything in the "do this first" thread to no avail.

Winfixer only gets me when I use IE. Firefox seems to be immune to it at this point. Here are some other problems it may or may not have caused. Sometimes when I boot up, it will tell me internet connection is not available, try again or work offline. I can click work offline and everything seems to be fine. The other problem that I have been having is that my notebook is now unable to go into Standby or Hibernate mode. I don't know if this is related or not but it seems like they both started happening about the same time. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Cheers,
Harvey

There are quite a few programs available that offer protection features to help keep a computer from getting infected. While this is normally a helpful feature, it can keep a victim from making the changes necessary to clean their comptuer. Please read the following and uninstall or disable those that apply to your machine.

These programs need to be uninstalled

AdWatch

These programs can just be disabled

Microsoft Antispyware
TeaTimer
SpySweeper
Win Patrol
Spyware Guard
PSGuard
Pestpatrol
Regrun
Diamonds Process controller

You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure.

Please save Hijack This in a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click
fix checked.

O20 - Winlogon Notify: gebyv - C:\WINDOWS\system32\gebyv.dll

Please reboot into safe mode (continually tap the F8 key while your system is starting, select Safe Mode from the menu).
Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold (if found):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\gebyv.dll

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads....org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Sorry for the delay. Thanks for your help, I knew this thing was going to be a monster. I mentioned earlier that my notebook stopped being able to go into standby or hibernate at the same time this winfixer thing popped up. Do you think they are related??

Here is an update:

Alright, I disabled the programs you mentioned. I ran HJT and fixed the things you said. I rebooted into Safe Mode and then went to delete:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\gebyv.dll

and it said I could not delete the file because it was in use already.

I rebooted and ran HJT. Here is a new log:

Got to start>>run>>and type in msconfig. Find

gebyv.dll

in the start-up tab if it's there and uncheck it.

Go to safe mode and delete it. see if that works.

Coachwife-
Thanks so much for all your help, but a friend came over and got rid of this little bugger, by creating a vundo.reg, using ProcessExplorer and KillBox. It seems to have worked.

Thanks again for your help!!!
