The laptop was purchased in Japan and windows is in Japanese. How or can it be changed to english?

Thanks for any help?

Click start then control panel then date time and regional then regional and change them there, click apply on each tab then click each tab, including advanced to set everything

Any suggestions on how to do this when you don't understand what is says on the screen.

ok control panel is the thing that looks like a pen writing a check mark on a notepad regional is the globe looking thing and then the first tab should be selected then there should be a drop down menu on top and on the bottom the one on top select your language and on the bottom select your location. eg. united states

if this is the actual full blown japanese version of windows you cannot change the menus this way...it doesn't even have an option for english in the reginal settings menu (at least none that i can find here at work with 2 translators over my shoulder)...you would need to purchase the microsoft windows MUI software to change the os back to english, or reformat with a new copy of xp. if this was orignally an english windows system then hopefully the place you got the machine from would have the MUI cds to let you use..(though being in japan....i doubt they would be easy to get your hands on)
