Well after days of pain and suffering I think I have narrowed it down mostly to hclean32.exe. Like most people I have the yellow balloon that pops up in the system tray and Norton reports C:\WINDOWS\System32\hclean32.exe sometimes when I open the browser. Also when I check the Norton log file it reports a blocked attempt from C:\WINDOWS\System32\dmvbm.exe.
Here is the never ending list of programs that I have used.

Adaware Se, Spybot, Norton AV, Bazooka (saying 'nothing detected'), Ewido, Silent Runners, AboutBuster, A Squared, Panda Online, Trojan Hunter, HijackThis, and Blacklight. Also I have tried to delete hclean32.exe using killbox but Norton still pops up with that warning.

Anyway I have log files from HiJack This, Blacklight, and SilentRunners.

Thanks in Advance for any help

Here is the HJT log:

Hi spywarepenguin,

If you hadn't replied to your own topic, the response wouldn't have been delayed this long, we helpers look for topics with 0 replies.

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

A note about the below fix, at one point HijackThis will launch. Normally we fix items in HijackThis at that point, but there are none in your case so just close it.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.sub.../Fixwareout.exe
http://swandog46.gee.../Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

When your system reboots, follow the prompts. Afterwards, HijackThis will launch. Close HijackThis, and click OK to proceed.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Finally, please post the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt, along with a new HijackThis log, Silentrunners log and Blacklight log.

That Fixwareout log doesn't look complete, are you sure you posted the whole of it?

Nope, no need for that. Since Blacklight didn't find anything, all the files appear to be gone.

Just fix this line in HijackThis. It was not visible before, but once the files are gone it became visible, the file is missing anyhow.

Open HijackThis and click Scan. Put a check next to this:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dmvbm.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\dmvbm.exe

Close all other windows except HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Are you having any problems now?

Well I didn't think I had any problems. The virus detected screen was not popping up when I opened my browser. But I ran a Norton Scan just to check everything out...and what happened? It found hclean32.exe so I quarantined it. I am going to restart and maybe do another scan

Where did it find it? Was it in the System32 folder? Yes, do another scan after reboot with Norton.

Yes, it was in the system32 folder so I quarintined it. I ran another scan yesterday and it did not find anything. Hopefully I'm all clear.

Yes, what happened is, hclean32.exe somehow survived the tool, but its hidden and rootkit attributes were taken away so Norton could finally rid of it.

Please take the following into consideration to maintain a clean computer.

I'll recommend you to install a monitoring software which will monitor certain areas on your computer and will place alerts when those are being modified. One such software I'll recommend is Prevx, but it's for advanced users as the messages it displays can be hard to decipher. One other similar but more user friendly software is Winpatrol. Both are free programs.

Winpatrol

Prevx

Visit Windows Update regularly to get the latest security updates. You can also enable automatic updates.Your antivirus software and antispyware programs should also be updated regularly. Make a habit of running scans on a timely basis. Be careful about what you download, scan every file before clicking on it.

Additional programs to consider:

Spywareblaster Prevents the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted software.Blocks spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.Restricts the actions of potentially unwanted sites in Internet Explorer.
Spywareguard An anti-virus program scans files before you open them and prevents execution if a virus is detected - SpywareGuard does the same thing, but for spyware!
IE/Spyad
Adds a list of malicious sites to your Restricted Sites Zone.
Firefox An alternate browser safer than IE

A good article to read:
So how did I get infected in the first place?

Regards,
