Upon return from vacation, Imy computer appears to have been infected with the above (apparently along with a lot of other people!). In addition to the usual symptoms which people have described (pop-up windows...), I have another problem which may be related, or, may be in addition. When I am connected to my cable modem (but haven't necessarily run IE), explorer can consume all of my CPU. I discovered tha I can force this to happen by booting, then immediately changing the date ahead 1 day. If I do this without the cable internet connected, no problem.

Anyway, I run Norton, have run Microsoft AntiSpyware, Adaware, and Spybot, but as reported by others, problem still exists. Appreciate any assistance. HJT log following:

Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Click on Tools, Settings.
In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
Under Startup Options uncheck Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).

I followed the instructions. 2 slight variations. There was no:
O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\Fonts\binvss.dll
in the HijackThis list to be fixed. Also, when HijackThis was closed and I presssed any key to force a reboot, no "Blue Screen of Death" appeared. The computer rebooted normally.

One additional question; Could this infection be the cause of my explorer consuming all of my CPU at times, or is that likely to be something else?

Is it Explorer taking up this much CPU or Internet Explorer?

It was Explorer, not IE. However, I haven't been on the computer long enough since doing all of the above to know if it is still an issue or not. It just seemed to be a symptom that was unrelated to the ad windows popping up, thus the question. Having said that, I suspect that it may be related since the CPU consumption historically did not occur when I disconnected my cable modem!

I'm also curious if I did anything wrong last night, since I didn't get exactly the expected computer responses (as described at the beginning of my previous post).

You didn't do anything wrong. After removing the malware, the HijackThis log will show the 'file missing'. Not all computers will show the 'blue screen'. We just warn because these things can happen.

The logs look clean. Please try surfing and using the computer like you normally would and let me know if everything is ok now.
