I followed the directions to do clean up using the software found on this site. During the clean up, the program told me that it didn't recognize system files. It told me to insert the Windows XP home edition disc. Fortunately, I requested one even though with new computers they don't usually send it.

Since I did not have the disc on me at the time, for each file I kept telling the program that I didn't want to change it. After >15 systems that needed replacing, I tried to stop the scan. I did, and then I rebooted.

Well, now my computer is really F...ed up. My keypad doesn't really work, I cannot access the start button, my task bar is blank, etc. I now have my disc. The clean up program will not run. Can anyone help me and advise me on what to do next.

Let it scan your system for files to remove.

Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.

Press OK to remove them.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

In the blue screen, the file path ending with STUTV.dll was not found

Since HJT did not open automatically, I had to reboot and re-enter safe mode
I checked the boxes but the HJT indicated that the last file, the one ending in VTUTS.dll, was "(file missing)". Nonetheless, I still checked the box.

Last night, retrac told me to switch to Firefox. Do you concur? I already have but the Active Scan required IE.
Also, tonight, I tried to use CleanUp40 again. I had the same problem that the program asked for my disc. When I put it in the drive, it told me that I input the wrong disc. I continued by accepting the unrecognized files. This time, I did not lose my task bar.

Download the following program, For keeping crap off your system to begin with
Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests. Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox. Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Download Spyware Blaster

Keep AD-Aware. and Spybot 1.3 handy, Check them for updates prior to running and run them weekly
Same with your Anti Virus,

For an added check run an online virus scan, you can use one of the 2 below,
TrendMicro's HouseCall
ActiveScan

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, Make sure after you clean your Temp files to empty out your Recycle bin as well.
Click Start | Run | type in cleanmgr | OK

Let it scan your system for files to remove.

Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.

Press OK to remove them.


Remeber to Check Windows for updates
