Hello! My name is Skate and im gonna help you work through this problem! :tazz:

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
  • This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
  • After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
  • Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
  • You will first be presented with a warning and a list of forums to seek help at.
    it should look like this

    VundoFix V2.1 by Atri
By pressing enter you agree that you are using this at your own risk
Please seek assistance at one of the following forums:
    http://www.atribune.org/forums
    http://www.247fixes.com/forums
    http://www.geekstogo.com/forum
    http://forums.net-integration.net

  • At this point press enter one time.

  • Next you will see:

Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
Then Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\qoppp.dll

  • Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.

  • Next you will see:

Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum staff
Then Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):C:\WINDOWS\system32\pppoq.*
  • Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
  • The fix will run then HijackThis will open.
  • In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://us.rd.yahoo.c.../search/ie.html
    O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {52B1DFC7-AAFC-4362-B103-868B0683C697} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\qoppp.dll
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: qoppp - C:\WINDOWS\system32\qoppp.dll
  • After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis and Press any key to Force a reboot of your computer.
  • Pressing any key will cause a "Blue Screen of Death" this is normal, do not worry!
  • Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.
Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

Thank you for your reply in trying to help me. I have run into a problem:

Each time I try to reboot into safe mode I get a black screen with 25 lines that read very similiar to this:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\windows\system32\c_437.nls

Each line seems to give a different ending.

What should I do? I was able to download VundoFix.exe should I run it now?

Thanks again for all your help.

that is normal, following that screen (a few seconds) it should go into a "safe mode" version of windows.

Skate,

Thanks for your fast reply!

I finally made it to safe mode but since the icons are so much larger than normal, I couldn't see the VundoFix icon! I tried again to go into safe mode and was successful however my icons didn't come on my screen. I waited 10 minutes and still no icons so I gave up. When I first get into safe mode, a message box comes up asking to click yes if I want to continue in safe mode. This box lasts only about 2 seconds then disappears--will it come back if I am to slow to click it the first time?

Again, I really appreciate all your help! :tazz:

when you see the box you can click yes, but it doesnt usually come back.
if you can manage to get to safe mode again, go to Start > Run and then type %userprofile%\Desktop\VundoFix\KillVundo.bat in the dialogue box, and hit enter. this should start the fix, at which point you can continue with the first set of instructions.

Skate,

I seem to be having a real hard time getting into safe mode--I don't understand why though? I get there and then that box where i am supposed to check yes comes up but it flashes so quickly that by the time I get the mouse there its gone. Any ideas why this is happening? Is there any other way to do this step? Can I run VundoFix without being in safe mode?

I really appreciate all your help.

Thanks so much,
Donna

So very close to perfect!

C:\WINDOWS\woinstall.exe <--delete that file!!

and now,
Congratulations Your Log is Clean!!

If you are still having trouble, please dont continue with these instructions just yet. LET ME KNOW!

Otherwise, we have a few clean up items to deal with.

1. System Restore
Now that we know your system is clean, we want to purge any potentially infected restore points. To do that, complete the following:

Turn off System Restore by Clicking Start > right-click My Computer and then click Properties. Click the System Restore tab > Check "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives". Click Apply. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click Yes to do this. Click OK.

To re-enable this function - simply uncheck this same box, and click "apply" and "ok"

2. Reset Hidden Files & Folders
Go to My Computer >Tools >Folder Options >View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is UNchecked. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are invisible. CHECK the Hide protected operating system files option.

Also Consider...
  • SpywareBlaster to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place.
  • SpywareGuard to catch and block spyware before it can execute.
  • IESpy-Ad to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email.
You should also have a good firewall. Here are 3 free ones available for personal use:
How is she running now? Any further problems? If not, Good work, and Happy Computing!

Please reply once more so we know you have read these measures.

Skate:

I got ride of woinstall.exe--what is this? spyware?

I also followed the rest of your instructions with no problems! Thank You!

As far as spyware protection--are the 3 mentioned above free? I currently use ad-aware but if you think the others are better I will get one of those. Can I run multiple spyware without them conflicting with each other?

As far as te firewall-- I have the EZ armor/trust that is free with optimum. This is ZoneAlarm ( i think). Should I have 2 firewalls? I didn't think that was allowed in computerland???

Any ideas or thoughts as to how all this spyware/malware get my computer infested? My kids play a couple of online games (RuneScape, Rose online and MapleStory) do you think these free online games cause it? Any way to check to see if these games have spyware attached to them?

My computer is running great now. WinFixer is finally gone! I really appreciate all your help. One last question, since your name is Skate_Punk I have a skateboarding question for you: My 12 year old loves to skateboard. He has a grind rail and some ramps but he mentioned today that he would like a longboard for xmas---any suggestions on a longboard or where to buy one? I would love to be able to surprise him with this.

Again, thanks so much for all your help. :tazz:

woinstall.exe - adware

the three mentioned things are NOT scanners, they setup your computer to PREVENT some malware downloads and access to known BAD site. and yes, all are free :)

I saw that you have a firewall, i just use the same speech foreveryone! :tazz:

as for where it came from, its inpossible to tell, downloads, Peer to Peer programs really anywhere. :)

And a longboard would be sweet! unfortunately i have never taken part in it and no next to nothing abut the makes/models im afraid :)

But im glad the computer works!

if you have anymore questions let me know, then i will close the thread.
