This is my GF's family computer and it has been running PAINFULLY slow. It keeps giving them popups and prevents them from using certain applications at all. The connection sometimes slows or stops completely. Keeps asking me to download WinAntiSpyware or something of that sort. Thanks ahead of time for any and all time given to my problem. Ok.. When I ran Vundo in Safe Mode I couldn't find the file "O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\Web\printers\abrdisk.dll" that you listed. Perhaps i missed it, but I had my gf look as well and she didn't see it. I went along with the instructions and found the others. I did not, however, get a blue screen of death (Never would I have thought that I would regret not seeing a blue screen of death, heh). But as it left my screen basically a black void I just manually restarted. I ran CleanUp! and then ActiveScan. Here are my results...

Lets give this another go. Delete the vundofix.exe and the extracted files. then follow the instuctions below.

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

lease download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

• • Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
  • This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
  • After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
  • Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
  • You will first be presented with a warning and a list of forums to seek help at.

• After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis and Press any key to Force a reboot of your computer.
• Pressing any key will cause a "Blue Screen of Death" this is normal, do not worry!
• Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

• Empty Recycle Bins
• Delete Cookies
• Delete Prefetch files
• Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.
Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

Mmmk Andy. I did as instructed. Once again though, I had trouble locating the file "O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\AppPatch\oledoc.dll " Now I do see it in my previous HijackThis post... But when I restarted in Safe Mode it was nowhere to be found. For all I know this could be irrelevant, but I thought I would let ya know. Please download ewido security suite it is a free version of the program.

• Install ewido security suite
• When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
  • Install background guard
  • Install scan via context menu
• Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
• The program will now open to the main screen.
• When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  
• You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
  • Then click on Start Update.
• The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")

If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.

Reboot into safe mode

• Click on scanner
• Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin. Do not open any other windows/programs for the duration of the scan.
• NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.**
  • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
  • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
  • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
  • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
• Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
• Click Save report.
• Save the report .txt file to your desktop.

Now close ewido security suite.
**(Ewido for example has been flagging parts of AVG Anti-Virus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk")

Good news.. and some of the not-so-good kind. Those files seemed to be gone now. The prob is still persisting though. As for specifics it seems to be spikes of lag in the connection. Such as: 1/10 Webpages may come up as "server not found" while simply refreshing brings it up, Programs such as AIM lose connection randomly, I periodically (and actually to briefly for me to read) get a message in my toolbar that says "Connection too low" or something along those lines (on cable conn.), and downloading programs such as WinMX fail to find connection. Stuff along those lines. The computer itself doesn't run slow since the first help you gave me except for starting up. Based on the system I would attribute it to w/e the problem affecting everything else is. I hope that is enough as I have not used the system alot myself, and the normal users are beyond computer illiterate. OK, here are the reports...

There does not seem to be anything in your log to cause the problems you are describing.
Try the suggestions below and let me know if anything improves.

If you do not use these programs, I would recommend they are uninstalled via add/remmove programs.

Can you tell me if the pc has multiple user profiles? If so could you post a HJT log from each user.

It may be worth running an on-line virus scan at Kaspersky OnLine Scan or if that doesnt work, you can use TrendMicro or BitDefender. (Please post the results of the scan(s) in your next reply)
