Having trouble adding a wireless network connection to the network connections screen in XP pro. Could someone please help me with this? Thankyou.

Fenor I have a notebook and therefore no wireless installation disk. I had to reinstall windows because my notebook is secondhand, and I did not have the recovery disk. I bought XP Pro, installed it and have no idea how to setup my wireless device.

Insert the "Wireless Device" into the machine.

Go to Control Panel and open Internet Options. Under the Connections tab, click the LAN Settings button. Put a tick in the box next to "Automatically detect network settings" and click "Ok". "Apply" the settings and click "Ok" to exit. Reboot.

Let us know how it goes...

First off, its not a plug in wireless device. It is a builtin wireless card for my notebook. I clicked to detect setting manually and still nothing shows at network connections. Still stuck.

Does the device show in Device Manager? Are there any yellow ? or ! in the Device Manager?

This should show us what adapter it is so we can point you to the correct drivers for it.

Check the laptop for a button that you have to push to enable the wireless connection. Some laptops i've seen you have ot push a button to activate/turn-on the wireless connection.

Installed the driver, rebooted and still nothing in network connections, or device manager.

Then do what I said before, check on your laptop for a button you have to push to enable the wireless adaptor, if you can't find one then go into the BIOS and look for a setting for it that you can set to ENABLED.
